The Historical Society of Rockland, 20 Zukor Road in New City, is proud to present The 36th Annual Miniature, Dollhouse & Art Exhibition. The exhibition, which will showcase the work of miniature artists, fine artists, quilters and dollhouse creators, will be curated by Joanne Potanovic. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Rockland County is hosting a kickoff event on the evening of Thursday, Feb 9 at the Comfort Inn & Suites, 425 East Rt. 59 in Nanuet. On Saturday, Feb 25, The Historical Society of Rockland is sponsoring a daytrip to tour The New York Historical Society. A new self-help tax preparation program for all ages, Free Assisted Self-Service Tax (FAST) Preparation, will be offered at the Nanuet Library, 149 Church Street, Nanuet, during the 2012 tax filing season. The program is available Wednesdays, Feb 1 – April 11 from 10AM – 2PM.

Co-located with the traditional AARP Tax Aide tax program, FAST will offer free tax preparation for workers and working families with incomes up to $57,000 and those eligible for the Earned Income Credit.

The 2012 edition of the Bergen County Model Railroad Club’s Train Show runs for 3 weekends, starting Saturday, Feb 18 through March 4, including President’s Day, Monday, Feb 20. The Rockland Independent Living Center, 873 Rt 45 in New City, is starting an after-school program to provide one-on-one homework assistance for children with special needs or learning disabilities. This program will be provided free of charge. The sessions will be held two days per week: Mondays and Thursdays from 3-5PM. As part of Rockland County’s efforts to go “green,” County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef announces the launch of a new website, www.RenewRockland.org. It will serve as a one-stop resource for residents, businesses and organizations to find rebates, incentives and grants to lower energy costs and conserve resources. The Mental Health Association of Rockland County, 230 Ramapo Road in Garnerville needs volunteers: You can do a great deed – One hour a week or 4 hours a month. Help a person with mental illness. Join the COMPEER Program of MHA of Rockland. The volunteer and client are matched, trained and supported. Together they re-enter the community, go shopping and see a movie or just a cup of coffee.
