This handsome boy’s eyes go right into his soul to his heart. He is sweet and loving. Ryder is a terrier mix and is quite the well-mannered gentleman. He is new to the shelter and we will keep you updated with his age but, we would guess 5 or 6 years old. He is absolutely stunning and will be the best companion ever. Hurry to come see this dapper guy.

This handsome guy is Puff. He is about 1 1/2 years old and his playful nature reflects his young age. He appears to be an American Bulldog or terrier mix. Puff is a wonderful boy but, very strong. He will need an owner who can handle this strength. But, talk about a big goofy love! For more information on Puff, please visit the shelter.

Escobar is a handsome four and a half year old who appears to be a terrier/mastiff mix. He is very new and was surrendered to the shelter after his owner was sadly evicted and didn’t have a place to take Escobar. He is the perfect walker and is very sweet. Escobar is a big boy but loves to give tons of kisses. He is so gentle, especially for his size and strength. He knows his basic commands and loves to give paw. Do you have room in your family for this big mush? If you are interested in this well-mannered mush, please visit the shelter.

Brooklyn is a 4 year old terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter thru no fault of his own, because his family was evicted. Brooklyn starts off a bit shy at first but then when he feels comfortable he warms right up. He’s a very friendly outgoing boy after he warms up, who will need continued leash training. He is housebroken. Brooklyn should be the only pet in the house and should be with older teens and adults because he is so active.

Asparagus is a 2 year old male cat who came to the shelter as a feral stray from Chestnut Ridge inn March of 2017. Asparagus is described by the staff as an energetic and playful cat who would do well with other cats. He is FIV+ so he would need to go with cats who are also FIV+. The staff feels he would do best with a family who has owned cats before. How can you not fall in love with his little face?

Melody is a one year old spayed female rabbit is very friendly and looking for a family to love her. She was rescued from a very neglectful home with her baby who unfortunately did not survive. Melody needs a home where she can receive the TLC she needs to learn that people can be kind. Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com for more information.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 11/28/18

Please help adoptable Simba. The eyes are the window into Simba’s soul. This handsome guy is a four-year-old terrier mix. Simba is affectionate and loves people. He knows some basic commands and loves attention (and he will tell you so!). He walks well on a leash and takes correction well. He is food motivated and will do anything for a treat or cookie. We brought him to an adoption event this past weekend and he did splendidly. He didn’t pay any attention to the dogs around him and loved seeing all the people. He will need an owner who will continue to work with him and his training.

Here are Pebbles and Max. Pebbles is a seven-year-old female Staffie mix and Max is an eight year old Bulldog mix. Pebbles and Max have lived their entire life together and were surrendered together. We would love if these two could be adopted as a pair. Max is a goofy calm boy who keeps his Pebbles comfortable and grounded. Pebbles seems to like her bestie Max, but other canines, not so much. These two are a lovely pair and they enjoy human companionship. If you are interested in this perfect pair, please fill out an adoption application and visit Hi Tor.

Sky is a three to four-year-old terrier mix. She is quite beautiful with her gray/ blue color. Sky walks nicely on a leash and has a nice way about her. She has a calmer demeanor and seems quite easy to be around. She quickly has become a volunteer favorite. She loves belly rubs and being carried around by anyone who will pick her up. She would prefer to be the only dog in the household.

Camila is a one year old Terrier mix. Camila is friendly with people and walks nicely on a leash. Camila was surrendered with two other female dogs related through litters. She has lived with other dogs in the past but would need to meet and greet any other pets in the household. She is new to the shelter and we are currently learning more about her and will post more soon.

What a stunner! Susan is a nine year old black and white long haired cat that was surrendered to the shelter by her owner back in August. She is sweet and active. She loves head rubs and cheek scratches. Susan is currently waiting for you at to come check her out at the shelter.

Check out this blue-eyed beauty! Madison, (formerly known as Louise), had a very rough start in life. Rescued from a broken-down hutch in the dead of winter, her and her sister combined their two litters to try to save their babies from the bitter cold. They were severely neglected. Within weeks of being rescued, (and 32 days after having her first litter), Madison gave birth to another litter of babies. She was so depleted, we weren’t sure she would survive. Thankfully, with proper medical care, and great care by her foster home she has been spayed and is doing wonderfully. She is completely litter trained, eats well, and loves her toys.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 11/15/18

Belle is another one of our many pocket pibbles who cannot control her excitement when she sees one of her favorite volunteers. This young pretty pitty is full of love and fun. She is 2-3 years old and would thrive in a home with no other animals. She is energetic but loving and very affectionate after she meets you. Are you looking for a dog like Belle to be part of your family?

It’s time to fall in love with Fiesty, a tiny petite pitty who wants only to be by your side or on your lap. She was surrendered to the shelter a couple months ago and was timid, but she really has come out of her shell! Her former owner reported to us Fiesty was between 8-9 years old but our Vet thinks she is probably a bit younger than that. She has lived with other dogs in the past but like many of our pups she would need a meet and greet to ensure she is compatible with other dogs! Fiesty prefers to be the tiniest one in the house so she could not live with cats or other small animals.

A dog like Lucy will teach you unconditional love. Volunteers fell madly in love with Lucy the moment she came to the shelter. She is a cuddly, love bug who was found as a stray. We will never know why her owners didn’t come for her but she is safe with us now! Lucy only wants to be in the warm arms of our volunteers. If you are interested in Lucy, Fiesty, or Belle please fill out an application on our website at https://www.hitor.org.

Hope is an 11 year old female tiger coat green-eyed cat who was surrendered to the shelter in September 2017 from Clarkstown because her owner could no longer care for her. She is a sweet senior cat who would love to live in a home instead of the noisy shelter. Hope has hope that her forever family is out there somewhere. Please consider adopting a senior pet like Hope!

Look at these angels! This is baby Carlton and his brother Kenton. They are the cutest little kittens that love to play and once they are tired out, they love to cuddle together. If you are looking for two kittens, these two are for you! They are bonded brothers so we do not want to break them up. If you are interested in Carlton and Kenton please fill out a pre-adoption application at Hitor.org and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com. These two kittens are currently at the Annex not the shelter.

Smokey is a one year old male dwarf mix rabbit who is very friendly and loves to explore. Smokey has been neutered, is litter trained and loves to play with his toys. His favorite food is cilantro. Smokey is patiently waiting for a family of his own. For more information on Smokey please email hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 10/25/18

This 8 year-old girl is Dallas. Dallas was surrendered with another dog when her owners could no longer care for her. She is a good girl and since she is a bit older she is a bit more low key. We are learning about Dallas and will update her bio shortly.

Ava is a terrier mix. She was found as a stray behind Stop and Shop in Orangeburg. She is between one and two years old. She came very skinny with a scar on her head, we aren’t quite sure what happened but, we know this girl truly deserves some love and the best life and family. Ava is shy at first and this is not surprising for what she has endured. She loved to play Frisbee! She is currently going to training classes with one of our volunteers and is learning obedience and leash walking skills.  Come over and visit Ava.

Escobar is a handsome four and a half year old who appears to be a terrier/mastiff mix. He was surrendered to the shelter after his owner was sadly evicted and didn’t have a place to take Escobar. He is the perfect walker and is very sweet. Escobar is a big boy but loves to give tons of kisses. He is so gentle, especially for his size and strength. He knows his basic commands and loves to give paw. Do you have room in your family for this big mush? If you are interested in this well-mannered guy, please visit the shelter at 65 Fireman’s Memorial Drive, Pomona, NY 10970.

Would you look at this gorgeous lady! Everyone, we would like you meet Pippa. Pippa came in as a feral cat and she was so nervous around everyone. Slowly but surely, after petting her with the petting stick and sitting with her she started to trust us more. She has come so far that now she is even venturing outside of her cage to interact with the other cats. This is all because of the time and patience of our amazing volunteers. Pippa likes other cats and although she is a little slow to warm up, she eventually does and she is such a sweetie. Pippa is now available for adoption, so if you are interested please fill out an application on www.hitor.org.

It’s time to meet our sweet boys, Frasier and Niles. These two boys are the sweetest kitties. They are playful and when they have had enough play time, they always cuddle up together. These two are very close so they would be perfect for anyone looking for a cuddly duo. Frasier, Niles, their siblings and momma Lilith are all available for pre-adoption. Anyone interested in the kittens or Pippa should contact Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com.

She is quite beautiful with her gray/blue color. Sky walks nicely on a leash and has a nice way about her. She has a calm demeanor and seems quite easy to be around. If you are looking for a well-mannered beautiful pup, Sky is waiting for you.

Caroline is a petite little ball of love with a big personality! She loves to run around the pen and play. There is nothing better than getting to run around with her favorite toys and volunteers. She would love a home of her own where her owners will give her all the attention she deserves.

Ryder is a terrier mix and quite the handsome gentleman. He is about 5 years old and well-mannered. If you’re looking for a buddy to hang out with you as the weather gets colder, come on and visit Ryder.

Clyde is a hound terrier mix and is 7 months old. He came in with his sister, but she was adopted, and sweet sweet Clyde remains. He is energetic like most puppies are but has an amazingly wonderful disposition. If you are looking for a young pup to train and play, come see Clyde.

Sweet Rosie was rescued from an awful life in an outdoor hutch, along with 15 other rabbits. She is a little over a year old, litter trained, and loves people and other animals. Rosie has been spayed and is living in a foster home while she waits for her forever family. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Baby Brett is the cutest little boy! He loves to play and cuddle with his buddies every chance he gets, and he’s always trying to climb on you to get your undivided attention! If you would like to be approved to adopt and would like to set up a meet and greet, please fill out an adoption application (which can be found on hitor.org) and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com.

Clyde is a hound terrier mix and is 7 months old. He came in with his sister but, she was adopted and sweet, sweet Clyde remains.  He is energetic like most puppies are, but has an amazingly wonderful disposition. If you are looking for a young pup to train and play, come see Clyde.

This gorgeous guy is Homer. He’s a young hound mix (we are awaiting his age and will update you soon). Homer has come in a bit scared with all the commotion of shelter life and buries his face in his favorite human volunteers’ laps for protection. We believe once he gets comfortable his true colors will shine! He is loving, sweet and loves to be close and snuggle. Clyde needs to learn some leash manners but, this is minor and is often seen in dogs who have yards before they come to us. Come meet Homer and he will love you forever.

This handsome boy’s eyes go right into heart and soul. Ryder is a sweet and loving terrier mix and is quite the well-mannered gentleman. He is new to the shelter and we will keep you updated with his age but, we would guess he’s 5 or 6 years old. He is absolutely stunning and will be the best companion ever. Hurry to come see this dapper guy.

Hope is a 10 1/2 year-old female tiger coat green eyed cat who was surrendered to the shelter in September 2017 from Clarkstown because her owner could no longer care for her. She is a sweet, senior cat who would love to live in a home instead of the noisy shelter. Hope has hope that her forever family is out there somewhere.

Mister is an all-grey male cat who has been at the shelter since July 2018. He was found as a stray in Spring Valley and is an older fella. He is docile and gentle. Mister is a mild diabetic so his future family would need to have experience with cats with special medical needs or just be willing to learn. Mister and Hope are currently at the shelter not the Annex.

Meet Greyson! He is an adorable and super-sweet male dwarf rabbit cutie pie! Greyson is doing so well with his litter training. He will be neutered soon. If interested please email Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 10/04/18

Ava is a beauty! She came to us as a stray and was in pretty bad shape. She was found by an employee behind a shopping plaza in Orangeburg. She was starving, skinny and covered in scars. But Ava is sweet as can be, loves to go for car rides and is an expert Frisbee player! Ava is slowly getting stronger and is now ready for her forever home.

Brooklyn is a 4-year-old terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter thru no fault of his own, because his family was evicted. Brooklyn starts off a bit shy at first but then when he feels comfortable he warms right up. He’s a very friendly outgoing boy after he warms up, who will need continued leash training. He is housebroken. Brooklyn would need a meet and greet with any other pets in the house and should be with older teens and adults because he is so active.

Kennedy

Beautiful Kennedy fought hard to survive when she was rescued from streets after being tossed out to fend for herself. She’s a very sweet, super sassy, litter trained young dwarf mix rabbit and is ready to go to her forever loving home with adults and only older children. She’ll be spayed prior to adoption.

Prince

Prince is a handsome, gentle one-year-old black and white rabbit who was rescued from a very neglectful home. He’s now living the good life in his foster home, has been neutered, is litter trained and loves to explore his environment. Prince would do best in a home with a patient, loving family who will give him the security he so desperately needs.

Luke & Logan

Luke and Logan are sweet one-and-a-half-year-old bonded brothers who are very social and love being around people. Although Logan is blind, he doesn’t let that stop him from anything! He becomes adjusted to his surroundings very quickly, listens to the sound of his tinkling toys, finds them and loves to play with them and with Luke. They’re currently in foster care and can’t wait to go to their special forever home together where they’ll be the only cats.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 9/27/18

Escobar is a handsome four-and-a-half-year-old pink-nosed pup. He has a sleek brown coat and appears to be a terrier/mastiff mix. He was surrendered to the shelter over a month ago after his owner was sadly evicted and didn’t have a place to take Escobar. He is the perfect walker and is very sweet. Escobar is a big boy and loves to give tons of slobbery kisses. He is so gentle, especially for his size and strength. He has lived with kids in the past, so we think he would make a great family dog. Do you have room in your home for this big mush?

Caroline, adorably petite girl, came in as a stray and is about 30 pounds of super-cuteness. And yes, she poses for pictures with her tongue out! All her photos give her an opportunity to show off how cute she is. Caroline likes people and would prefer to be with human friends over canine. She likes to run and play! It appears she may have had a fenced yard in her last home and not too many walks because she does need some work on her leash skills. It’s hard not to fall in love with this sweet face, so stop by the shelter and meet her today.

Rollo has been at the shelter for a very long time. He was found as a stray, starving and covered in sores. He was listed as a “Rescue only” when he first came in because he was diagnosed on intake with a heart problem. This diagnosis kept him from being neutered. Recently, an anonymous donor paid for a full vet workup for Rollo and the vet determined his heart issue had improved and he could be fixed. So, now Rollo is ready for his “forever” home. He is a uniquely special dog who will need a special owner. He is a silly, slow-paced, low energy dog and would love a quiet household. Rollo enjoys cuddling up on a soft blanket and taking long naps. He isn’t much of a walker so he would be very content just curling up with his owner and relaxing. Do you or someone you know have room in your family for this special pup?

Boo is a one-year old female cat who came to the shelter as a feral but we soon realized she would make a great house cat. She is good with other cats but would prefer a house with teens and adults. She seems a bit shy when you first meet Boo but after a couple pets on the head she warms up to you quickly.

Clyde is a 10-year-old senior cat who we like to call Mr. Independent. He is a calm cat who would prefer to be the only cat in the house. He likes older humans, so no young kids, please. Clyde is one of the oldest cats at the shelter and wants nothing more than a quiet home and a person to love him. If you are interested in either Boo or Clyde please call the shelter, they are not located at the Annex.

Check out our blue-eyed bunny beauty, Madison (formerly known as Louise)! She had a very rough start in life. Rescued from a broken-down hutch in the dead of winter, she and her sister combined their two litters to try to save their babies from the bitter cold. Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 9/13/18

This sweet sensitive girl is Dakota. She is about 4 1/2 years old and was surrendered by her owner after it was determined she had too many dogs. She is quite scared and learning how to get used to shelter life, which is not an easy task for this sweet girl. Dakota wants to be an only dog. She is timid at first but, comes out of her shell when she gets comfortable with her people. She is not doing well with the stress of the shelter and needs to find a forever home soon.

Remy can work a crowd, for sure. She is almost two years old and is available for adoption. This gorgeous brindle baby is active and friendly. Her favorite thing to do at the shelter is visit adoption events to meet and greet any human who will be her new friend! She’s friendly around new people. Everyone who handles her describes her as sweet. Remy is working on her basic commands. She knows sit and is beginning to learn down and stay. She would prefer to be the only fur-kid and live in the company of adult sized people. For further information on Remy, please contact Hi Tor at (845)354-7900.

Welcome back Coco! Does anyone remember the stray rabbit rescued by caring residents in Pearl River? This young boy spent his summer brightening the days of many children at a local camp. Coco lived in a large enclosure in a nature center, and was moved into the office when temps were over 80 degrees. He was able to romp around all day interacting with the campers. The counselors referred to Coco as more of a puppy dog. He loves people! Coco needs a temporary foster home while he waits for his forever family. If you are able to foster or are interested in adopting Coco please send an email to Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Pumpkin Pie is an 8-week-old female kitten who is currently in foster care. She is one of the five kittens in the “dessert” litter. Pumpkin Pie was born to a feral mom in someone’s yard, brought to Hi Tor at about 6 weeks of age, and placed in foster care that same day. All five kittens were inquisitive and sociable from the very beginning. Happy and playful and very pleased with the food! This little one was the first one out of the carrier, walking directly to the foster family for attention and cuddles. She is a very pretty 8-week-old short hair brown tabby girl, some white on her chest and legs, with petite features and huge eyes. If she was a human, she would have a job in marketing. She is the first one to greet people, walk with them in the house, and sit with them while they visit. And if they want to share a snack with her—well that would be great too! And maybe a tummy rubs if they weren’t too busy. Pumpkin Pie would be a great choice as a companion or in a house with kids that wants an easy, affectionate kitten. She is known for her fierce take downs of toys but when she is done playing she is as sweet as her name. If you want even more action and sweetness check out her siblings Eclair, Tiramisu, Cheesecake and Cannoli.

His name is Cannoli and, in his picture, He is guarding his foster Dad’s backpack. Nobody’s taking it and he’s not going anywhere without Little Cannoli! He is just that kind of kitten. Fluffy too—just right for petting. Cannoli is the only black and white one in the litter of tabbies and has medium length hair with just a bit of white in rings around his neck and back. Cannoli is very much a lap kitten and wants to be with his people. He would be a great choice for kids or someone who wants a companion. He is living in a foster home and can easily be brought to Hi Tor for a visit.

Cheesecake is a brown and black tabby with small white socks and the biggest eyes. Such a pretty little girl! You know that song “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”? Well, that’s her song since she really must come be with you no matter what you’re doing. And she’s so sweet you can’t help but stop and cuddle her. She sits on her foster mom’s lap every morning for breakfast, and they read the paper together. Contact Hi Tor if you’d like company for breakfast too. Is this the kind of cat you want? She’s a sweetie who is NOT allowed on the table but insists on cuddling next to you while you work. She and her siblings were dropped off at the shelter and have been leading happy healthy kitten lives in a foster home. To adopt any of them call Hi Tor at (845) 354-7900 to arrange a visit at their foster home.
