Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 10/18/18

Sky is a beautiful four-year-old terrier mix who is looking for her family to come rescue her. Sky is a laid-back girl who found herself at our shelter unexpectedly. She is quite beautiful with her gray/blue color. Sky walks nicely on a leash and has a nice way about her. She has a calm demeanor and seems quite easy to be around. If you are looking for a well-mannered beautiful pup, Sky is waiting for you.

Caroline is a petite little ball of love with a big personality! She loves to run around the pen and play. There is nothing better than getting to run around with her favorite toys and volunteers. She would love a home of her own where her owners will give her all the attention she deserves.

Ryder is a terrier mix and quite the handsome gentleman. He is about 5 years old and well-mannered. If you’re looking for a buddy to hang out with you as the weather gets colder, come on and visit Ryder.

Clyde is a hound terrier mix and is 7 months old. He came in with his sister, but she was adopted, and sweet sweet Clyde remains. He is energetic like most puppies are but has an amazingly wonderful disposition. If you are looking for a young pup to train and play, come see Clyde.

Sweet Rosie was rescued from an awful life in an outdoor hutch, along with 15 other rabbits. She is a little over a year old, litter trained, and loves people and other animals. Rosie has been spayed and is living in a foster home while she waits for her forever family. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Baby Brett is the cutest little boy! He loves to play and cuddle with his buddies every chance he gets, and he’s always trying to climb on you to get your undivided attention! If you would like to be approved to adopt and would like to set up a meet and greet, please fill out an adoption application (which can be found on hitor.org) and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 10/11/18

Clyde is a hound terrier mix and is 7 months old. He came in with his sister but, she was adopted and sweet, sweet Clyde remains.  He is energetic like most puppies are, but has an amazingly wonderful disposition. If you are looking for a young pup to train and play, come see Clyde.

This gorgeous guy is Homer. He’s a young hound mix (we are awaiting his age and will update you soon). Homer has come in a bit scared with all the commotion of shelter life and buries his face in his favorite human volunteers’ laps for protection. We believe once he gets comfortable his true colors will shine! He is loving, sweet and loves to be close and snuggle. Clyde needs to learn some leash manners but, this is minor and is often seen in dogs who have yards before they come to us. Come meet Homer and he will love you forever.

This handsome boy’s eyes go right into heart and soul. Ryder is a sweet and loving terrier mix and is quite the well-mannered gentleman. He is new to the shelter and we will keep you updated with his age but, we would guess he’s 5 or 6 years old. He is absolutely stunning and will be the best companion ever. Hurry to come see this dapper guy.

Hope is a 10 1/2 year-old female tiger coat green eyed cat who was surrendered to the shelter in September 2017 from Clarkstown because her owner could no longer care for her. She is a sweet, senior cat who would love to live in a home instead of the noisy shelter. Hope has hope that her forever family is out there somewhere.

Mister is an all-grey male cat who has been at the shelter since July 2018. He was found as a stray in Spring Valley and is an older fella. He is docile and gentle. Mister is a mild diabetic so his future family would need to have experience with cats with special medical needs or just be willing to learn. Mister and Hope are currently at the shelter not the Annex.

Meet Greyson! He is an adorable and super-sweet male dwarf rabbit cutie pie! Greyson is doing so well with his litter training. He will be neutered soon. If interested please email Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 10/04/18

Ava is a beauty! She came to us as a stray and was in pretty bad shape. She was found by an employee behind a shopping plaza in Orangeburg. She was starving, skinny and covered in scars. But Ava is sweet as can be, loves to go for car rides and is an expert Frisbee player! Ava is slowly getting stronger and is now ready for her forever home.

Brooklyn is a 4-year-old terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter thru no fault of his own, because his family was evicted. Brooklyn starts off a bit shy at first but then when he feels comfortable he warms right up. He’s a very friendly outgoing boy after he warms up, who will need continued leash training. He is housebroken. Brooklyn would need a meet and greet with any other pets in the house and should be with older teens and adults because he is so active.

Kennedy

Beautiful Kennedy fought hard to survive when she was rescued from streets after being tossed out to fend for herself. She’s a very sweet, super sassy, litter trained young dwarf mix rabbit and is ready to go to her forever loving home with adults and only older children. She’ll be spayed prior to adoption.

Prince

Prince is a handsome, gentle one-year-old black and white rabbit who was rescued from a very neglectful home. He’s now living the good life in his foster home, has been neutered, is litter trained and loves to explore his environment. Prince would do best in a home with a patient, loving family who will give him the security he so desperately needs.

Luke & Logan

Luke and Logan are sweet one-and-a-half-year-old bonded brothers who are very social and love being around people. Although Logan is blind, he doesn’t let that stop him from anything! He becomes adjusted to his surroundings very quickly, listens to the sound of his tinkling toys, finds them and loves to play with them and with Luke. They’re currently in foster care and can’t wait to go to their special forever home together where they’ll be the only cats.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 9/27/18

Escobar is a handsome four-and-a-half-year-old pink-nosed pup. He has a sleek brown coat and appears to be a terrier/mastiff mix. He was surrendered to the shelter over a month ago after his owner was sadly evicted and didn’t have a place to take Escobar. He is the perfect walker and is very sweet. Escobar is a big boy and loves to give tons of slobbery kisses. He is so gentle, especially for his size and strength. He has lived with kids in the past, so we think he would make a great family dog. Do you have room in your home for this big mush?

Caroline, adorably petite girl, came in as a stray and is about 30 pounds of super-cuteness. And yes, she poses for pictures with her tongue out! All her photos give her an opportunity to show off how cute she is. Caroline likes people and would prefer to be with human friends over canine. She likes to run and play! It appears she may have had a fenced yard in her last home and not too many walks because she does need some work on her leash skills. It’s hard not to fall in love with this sweet face, so stop by the shelter and meet her today.

Rollo has been at the shelter for a very long time. He was found as a stray, starving and covered in sores. He was listed as a “Rescue only” when he first came in because he was diagnosed on intake with a heart problem. This diagnosis kept him from being neutered. Recently, an anonymous donor paid for a full vet workup for Rollo and the vet determined his heart issue had improved and he could be fixed. So, now Rollo is ready for his “forever” home. He is a uniquely special dog who will need a special owner. He is a silly, slow-paced, low energy dog and would love a quiet household. Rollo enjoys cuddling up on a soft blanket and taking long naps. He isn’t much of a walker so he would be very content just curling up with his owner and relaxing. Do you or someone you know have room in your family for this special pup?

Boo is a one-year old female cat who came to the shelter as a feral but we soon realized she would make a great house cat. She is good with other cats but would prefer a house with teens and adults. She seems a bit shy when you first meet Boo but after a couple pets on the head she warms up to you quickly.

Clyde is a 10-year-old senior cat who we like to call Mr. Independent. He is a calm cat who would prefer to be the only cat in the house. He likes older humans, so no young kids, please. Clyde is one of the oldest cats at the shelter and wants nothing more than a quiet home and a person to love him. If you are interested in either Boo or Clyde please call the shelter, they are not located at the Annex.

Check out our blue-eyed bunny beauty, Madison (formerly known as Louise)! She had a very rough start in life. Rescued from a broken-down hutch in the dead of winter, she and her sister combined their two litters to try to save their babies from the bitter cold. They were severely neglected. Within weeks of being rescued, (and 32 days after having her first litter), Madison gave birth to another litter of babies. She was so depleted, we weren’t sure she would survive. Thankfully, with proper medical care, and great care by her foster home she has been spayed and is doing wonderfully. She is completely litter trained, eats well, and loves her toys. Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 9/13/18

This sweet sensitive girl is Dakota. She is about 4 1/2 years old and was surrendered by her owner after it was determined she had too many dogs. She is quite scared and learning how to get used to shelter life, which is not an easy task for this sweet girl. Dakota wants to be an only dog. She is timid at first but, comes out of her shell when she gets comfortable with her people. She is not doing well with the stress of the shelter and needs to find a forever home soon.

Remy can work a crowd, for sure. She is almost two years old and is available for adoption. This gorgeous brindle baby is active and friendly. Her favorite thing to do at the shelter is visit adoption events to meet and greet any human who will be her new friend! She’s friendly around new people. Everyone who handles her describes her as sweet. Remy is working on her basic commands. She knows sit and is beginning to learn down and stay. She would prefer to be the only fur-kid and live in the company of adult sized people. For further information on Remy, please contact Hi Tor at (845)354-7900.

Welcome back Coco! Does anyone remember the stray rabbit rescued by caring residents in Pearl River? This young boy spent his summer brightening the days of many children at a local camp. Coco lived in a large enclosure in a nature center, and was moved into the office when temps were over 80 degrees. He was able to romp around all day interacting with the campers. The counselors referred to Coco as more of a puppy dog. He loves people! Coco needs a temporary foster home while he waits for his forever family. If you are able to foster or are interested in adopting Coco please send an email to Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Pumpkin Pie is an 8-week-old female kitten who is currently in foster care. She is one of the five kittens in the “dessert” litter. Pumpkin Pie was born to a feral mom in someone’s yard, brought to Hi Tor at about 6 weeks of age, and placed in foster care that same day. All five kittens were inquisitive and sociable from the very beginning. Happy and playful and very pleased with the food! This little one was the first one out of the carrier, walking directly to the foster family for attention and cuddles. She is a very pretty 8-week-old short hair brown tabby girl, some white on her chest and legs, with petite features and huge eyes. If she was a human, she would have a job in marketing. She is the first one to greet people, walk with them in the house, and sit with them while they visit. And if they want to share a snack with her—well that would be great too! And maybe a tummy rubs if they weren’t too busy. Pumpkin Pie would be a great choice as a companion or in a house with kids that wants an easy, affectionate kitten. She is known for her fierce take downs of toys but when she is done playing she is as sweet as her name. If you want even more action and sweetness check out her siblings Eclair, Tiramisu, Cheesecake and Cannoli.

His name is Cannoli and, in his picture, He is guarding his foster Dad’s backpack. Nobody’s taking it and he’s not going anywhere without Little Cannoli! He is just that kind of kitten. Fluffy too—just right for petting. Cannoli is the only black and white one in the litter of tabbies and has medium length hair with just a bit of white in rings around his neck and back. Cannoli is very much a lap kitten and wants to be with his people. He would be a great choice for kids or someone who wants a companion. He is living in a foster home and can easily be brought to Hi Tor for a visit.

Cheesecake is a brown and black tabby with small white socks and the biggest eyes. Such a pretty little girl! You know that song “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”? Well, that’s her song since she really must come be with you no matter what you’re doing. And she’s so sweet you can’t help but stop and cuddle her. She sits on her foster mom’s lap every morning for breakfast, and they read the paper together. Contact Hi Tor if you’d like company for breakfast too. Is this the kind of cat you want? She’s a sweetie who is NOT allowed on the table but insists on cuddling next to you while you work. She and her siblings were dropped off at the shelter and have been leading happy healthy kitten lives in a foster home. To adopt any of them call Hi Tor at (845) 354-7900 to arrange a visit at their foster home.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 9/6/18

This four-year-old mixed breed is Cassie. We believe Cassie is lab-chow mix, but, you can never be too sure. Cassie is the perfect mannered girl. She walks nicely on a leash and is house trained. She is a calm and affectionate girl. Cassie will make her future family complete. For more information, please visit Cassie at the shelter.

Poor pup, Molly, was surrendered because her owner could no longer care for her due to landlord issues. Molly is a brown and white, red nose terrier mix. She still is a puppy at under a year old and is sweet as all our lovey terrier pups are. She is young and she is active, so like all young pups she will need some training to show her the ropes! If you are looking for a young dog to grow with you and your family stop by and meet Molly!

This adorable petite girl is Caroline. She came in as a stray and is about 30 pounds of uber cuteness. And yes, she poses for pictures with her tongue out! All of her photos give her an opportunity to show off how cute she is. Caroline likes people and would prefer to be with human friends over canine. She likes to run and play! It appears she may have had a fenced yard in her last home and not too many walks because she does need some work on her leash skills. For more information about Caroline, Cassie or Molly visit the shelter or call (845) 354-7900.

This is Taylor and he is so playful and affectionate! He’s a black and white cat and loves to sit in your lap and he loves to play with the feather wand! Like all of us, Taylor is also a huge fan of treats! This darling has been waiting for his forever home for a long time now. You can go to www.hitor.org and fill out an adoption application or send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.comto schedule a meet and greet!

Sweet baby, Bob is the friendliest baby kitten you will ever meet. The second you sit on the floor, he climbs right into your lap and plops his cuddly butt down. Because of his personality, we believe Bob would make a perfect pet! Both Bob and Taylor are currently located at the Hi Tor Annex, not the shelter.

Introducing Kennedy! This little bunny was rescued in Spring Valley and she was not expected to survive. She showed everyone just how strong she is! Kennedy is a happy, bouncy little girl. We want to thank Spring Valley Police Officer Brandon King, along with some caring residents at the Kennedy Arms Apartments, for saving Kennedy’s life by rescuing her. With lots of love and dedication Kennedy is doing great! As an added bonus, she is now litter-trained too! We are currently accepting applications for Kennedy! She would do best in a loving home with adults or adults and older children. Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Escobar is a handsome four and a half year old and appears to be a terrier/mastiff mix. He is very new and was surrendered to the shelter after his owner was sadly evicted and didn’t have a place to take Escobar. He is the perfect walker and is very sweet. Escobar is a big boy but loves to give tons of kisses. He is so gentle, especially for his size and strength. Do you have room in your family for this big mush?

Cartigan is a tiny black and white terrier mix. She came in as a stray and no one ever came for her. We estimate her to be about 10 months old. Cartigan is also new to the shelter. When she was brought in, she was very skinny and scared but the staff and volunteers have worked with her and she has really come out of her shell! She is very sweet and would love to find a family she can spend the rest of her life with!

Look at this beauty! We do not get a lot of pure breed dogs at Hi Tor so Kira is a standout! If you have visited the shelter recently, you have probably heard her identifiable howl when she wants to say “Hi!”  She is a Redtick Coonhound and was found as a stray. Sadly, she was never claimed. Kira is a young adult dog but appears to have been used for breeding in the past. We will never know her past but we can make her future bright! Kira would fit best in a home with owners who have experience with Coonhound-type dogs! Kira is high-energy, alert and an intelligent dog consistent with her breed. Do you have a big back yard and an active lifestyle? Then Kira is your girl!

Thelma is one-year old female bunny who was rescued from a horrible life in a broken down hutch. She had a litter of five-day old babies when she was brought in. 30 days later, Thelma gave birth to 8 more babies. Within two days all 8 babies died. It is time for Thelma to find a loving home where she will get all the love she deserves. Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

In March of 2018, a concerned and worried social worker dropped off a carrier with two very young cats that she found in the basement of a home where the tenants had been evicted. We do not know how long they had been down there.  Thankfully, she brought them to Hi Tor.  Sadly, one of the cats is blind and was extremely dirty and matted. His buddy thankfully was in better condition. After a trip to the groomer, this frightened boy got a much-needed bath and shave, and he was a new guy!  The “refreshed” pair were named Luke and Logan. There is a wonderful, patient, forever home out there for them. We’re going to work very hard to find their forever family. Five months is too long for any pet to be in a cage, but when that pet is blind and shares it with another animal, it makes it all the more difficult and stressful. The staff has observed that Luke definitely guides Logan – Logan is able to follow Luke when they’re out on free time. Logan needs to be aware if someone is going to touch him, he gets frightened by sudden movement, but when he knows you he definitely looks forward to being petted and loved. If you have a small space, without too much in the way, and think you might be able to give these two deserving boys a home, PLEASE contact Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com for more info.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 8/23/18

Belle’s name appropriately reflects her quiet beauty. Belle is a 2 – 3 year old terrier mix. Belle is quite gentle with her people once she gets to know you. She is a bit scared and shy at first but, when she gets comfortable gives endless affection. Give this little beauty a chance.

Rollo has been at the shelter for a very long time. He was found as a stray starving and covered in scabs. He is a silly, slow-paced, low energy dog. Rollo enjoys cuddling up on a soft blanket and taking long naps. Do you or someone you know have room in your family for this special pup??

Sweet Suzie is a six month-old rabbit and is looking for a family to love. She is litter-trained, gentle, and enjoys attention. Suzie is bonded to her sister, Sasha, so we would love to have them adopted together. For more information, please send an email to Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Baby Henry is the sweetest little boy you will ever meet and he is here with his mommy, Alicia! He loves to play but he also loves to lie on your shoulder and cuddle! Hi Tor has a “Mommy and Me” program that allows you to adopt a kitten and get mommy for free! If you would like to be approved to adopt and would like to set up a meet and greet, please send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com.

Hi Tor has so many gorgeous and loving kittens that are all in need of their “forever” homes, including little Amanda! She is always cuddling with her roommates and playing with everyone! We have all different colors, fur lengths, genders and personalities to fit any families looking for a 4-legged companion!

Lovely is on the shyer side but has been making great strides getting more comfortable with people! When this little kitty first came here she wouldn’t even let us touch her! This sweet girl is Dakota. She is about 4 1/2 years old and was surrendered by her owner.  She is quite shy and learning how to get used to shelter life, which is not an easy task for this sweet girl. Dakota wants to be an only dog. She comes out of her shell when she gets comfortable with her people.

This handsome guy is Puff. He is about 1 1/2 years old and his playful nature reflects his young age. He appears to be an American Bulldog or terrier mix. Puff is a wonderful boy but very strong. He will need an owner who can handle this strength. But, talk about a big goofy love! For more information on Puff, Dakota and Belle, please visit the shelter.

Check out this blue-eyed beauty rabbit! Etta, (formerly known as Louise), had a very rough start in life. Rescued from a broken down hutch in the dead of winter, she and her sister combined their two litters to try to save their babies from the bitter cold. They were severely neglected, with no hay and no water. Within weeks of being rescued, (and 32 days after having her first litter), Etta gave birth to another litter of babies. For information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Amber is a two-year-old all black cat who came to the shelter as a stray from Tompkins Cove after she was found hiding under a trailer. She is described by staff as a feisty girl who would need a home with older children and no other cats. She has been at the shelter since July 2017.

Dusty is a five-and-a-half-year-old domestic short hair. Dusty came to us after being found as a stray underneath a parked car. Dusty would do best as an only cat in a home with adults who have had experience owning cats. He can start off aloof and does need some time to warm up to new people. Amber and Dusty are currently at the shelter, not the Annex.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 8/9/18

Leah is a five year-old female pit bull mix who was surrendered to the shelter two years ago this week because her owner did not have the time for her. Leah would do well in an active home as she loves to run around and play, so she’d do well with kids about 10 and older who can keep up with her. A fenced in yard would be a plus also. Leah loves people and could always use on going obedience training. Leah should also be the only pet in the house. Come meet this bundle of fun!

Rocky came to the shelter back in May. He is a two year-old chocolate brown and white terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter when his family moved away and could not bring him along. Rocky is a calm, sweet dog who walks like a champ on a leash. He is a volunteer favorite because he prances proudly when he walks. Rocky has not been tested with cats and would need a meet and greet with any other dog in the house. If you’re looking for a snuggle bug, Rocky is your dog!

Hope is a ten-and-a-half-year-old female tiger coat green-eyed cat who was surrendered to the shelter in September 2017 from Clarkstown because her owner could no longer care for her. She is a sweet senior cat who would love to live in a home instead of the noisy shelter. Hope has hope that her forever family is out there somewhere.

Amber is a two-year-old all black cat who came to the shelter as a stray from Tompkins Cove after she was found hiding under a trailer. She is described by staff as a feisty girl who would need a home with older children and no other cats. She has been at the shelter since July 2017.
