Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 2/14/19

Meet Puff. He is about 2 years old and his playful nature reflects his young age. He appears to be an American Bulldog mix. Puff is a wonderful boy. He is very strong, but he does play gently. His favorite toy is a soccer ball! Talk about a big goofy love! He has lived with other dogs, cats and children over ten in his last home. Puff is a sweet dog that often gets overlooked because of his size. For more information on Puff, please visit the shelter or email Doug@hitor.org.

The shelter is no life for a senior like Cupcake. She is Queen of the Head-Tilt! She is the oldest dog at the shelter. She’s almost 11 but is still very active. She knows how to sit, stay, shake, down and roll over. She walks gently on a leash and is great on car rides. She would make a perfect dog for someone who will take her for walks and let her cuddle and watch TV. Cupcake’s adoption fee is sponsored by a generous donor.

Sunny has been at the shelter quite a while but he has come a long way. He’s about two ½ years old and was surrendered to the shelter, then adopted, but he was not the right fit for an active family with children. Sunny’s had a hard time with his transition back to shelter life but, with the help of amazing volunteers he is doing better. He will walk by your side and truly enjoys the company of his people. When the volunteers spend one-on-one time with him, he gives kisses and thinks he is a lap dog (and they love him so and would never tell him otherwise). Sunny is waiting for his forever family in a quiet home with older adults. Please consider sharing Sunny, he’s been at the shelter far longer than he deserves and he will make someone very happy.

Shane is 3 years old and loves to be with his people. He is like an active teenager who always is ready to run and is known to skid across the floor when he is out playing with the volunteers. Shane will be a treasure to any family who gives him a chance. He has been at the shelter since 2016, which is most of his life. Please give this guy a chance to have a home.

Cici is a 4-year-old female cat who is active and energetic. She needs a home where she can get plenty of exercise. Cici has not known an interest in other cats but might be okay living in a home with others, or just as an only cat. Cici needs an adult-only home with adopters who have had experience owning cats. She has been at the shelter since 2015. For more info on Shane or Cici call the shelter and speak to Amber.

Bob is the friendliest cat you will ever meet! The second you sit on the floor he climbs into your lap and plops down on your lap. Bob has been at the Annex for several years and he deserves a home of his own. For more info on Bob email Nixie at Gentlesouls@aol.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 2/7/19

Chaos is a 4-year-old handsome brindle Cane Corso who was surrendered to the shelter back in October. He has lived with four children in the past but would prefer no other pets in the household. Chaos is a very strong dog who would need a family who has Cane Corso or similar breed experience. He knows all of his commands and is very gentle for his size. He walks great on a leash, and he is so playful and gentle. He is such a good boy when he takes treats and just needs a second chance at a family. Please email Doug@hitor.org

Sandy is an adorable 1 1/2-year-old terrier mix. She’s so small and has the prettiest face. All you want to do is schmoosh her little cheeks. We believe Sandy lived with our former resident Chet at one point. Sandy sadly spent most of her short life in a crate and was not treated so nicely. Sandy walks great on a harness and takes treats gently. She loves every person she meets. She is still quite scared at the shelter but when she comes out of her kennel and is placed in a quiet space, she so is much happier. Please consider adding Sandy to your family. For more info email Doug@hitor.org

Are you entranced by his eyes? His name is Rex and he has a boyish playfulness and is so active. He is about 4 years old and came to us as a stray. He loves to run and is always on the lookout for furry things that move! Adventure is his thing! Rex would love a forever home that would keep him active and occupied. When he gets bored, he has been known to turn into an escape artist! His new family would need to be able to accommodate his tendency to want to run free. The staff would like to find him a home with a large yard and high fencing. He likes everyone he meets and has lived with another female Husky so he may make a great partner if you already have a Husky.

Farrah is an 11-month-old tuxedo kitten. She has been at the shelter since June 2018. She was picked up as a stray with her brother Franklin. He was outgoing and was adopted quickly. Farrah can be a bit scared, but the staff are showing her that humans are ok to trust and we know she will love us very soon.

Casey is a one-year-old brown tabby who has been at the shelter since September 2017. He was picked up as a stray. He is an active, loving boy who would love to play in his forever home for hours! For more info on Farrah and Casey please contact Amber at the shelter.

Violet the bunny was brought recently to Hi Tor, sadly another stray. This absolutely stunning female Rex is just exquisite. Her fur is the softest you will ever touch. She is enjoying all the attention she is getting and eating up quite a storm! She absolutely loves head rubs and melts in your hands. For more info please email Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 1/24/19

Feisty is a six-year-old female tiny terrier mix. This poor baby came to us with two other dogs because her owner was moving and could no longer care for them. She is absolutely stunning with her beautiful face and unique gray tannish coloring. She has been in a foster home since late December. We are told she is a dream in the house. She doesn’t bark and is so calm. Even though they love her very much, it is time for Feisty to find her forever home.

Meet Pebbles and Max. Pebbles is a 7 year old female staffie mix and Max is an 8 year old bull dog mix. Pebbles and Max have lived their entire life together and were surrendered together. We would love if these two could be adopted as a pair. Max is a goofy calm boy who keeps his Pebbles comfortable and grounded. Pebbles seems to like her canine bestie Max, but not other canines so much. These two are a lovely pair whom enjoy human companionship. Max currently is being treated for an ear infection but, will be ready for adoption after treatment. If you are interested in this perfect pair, please fill out an adoption application at www.hitor.org.

Ryder is a pibble mix, sweet and loving and quite the well-mannered gentleman. He is 3 1/2 years old but is still the size of a large pup. He is absolutely stunning and will be the best companion ever. Hurry to come see this dapper guy. Please call the shelter or email Doug@hitor.org with questions about any of the dogs.

Hercules is a 9 year-old male cat who was surrendered by his owner. He has been at the shelter since March 2018. He is slow to warm up and would need a caring and patient family.

Sweet little Sophie is a 13 year old senior. She needed eye surgery for an infection 3 months ago but that did not stop her from enjoying life, She is as sweet as sweet can be. She loves to be pet but not a fan of being picked up. However, she will make a wonderful couch cat for you to snuggle with.

Rosie is an absolutely beautiful bunny. Rosie was surrendered as she was no longer “wanted.” Can you believe it? This beauty. She is super-sweet and super-friendly. She loves head rubs and lots of attention. For more info please email Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 1/17/19

Meet Baby. The volunteers say she is quite a cutie. She has a lot to learn but, she knows someone is out there to teach her to be a good dog. She is very active because she’s so young and she tends to chase things, so she needs someone who will understand that she needs to learn not to chase everything unless it’s a toy or a ball. Because of her energy, the staff thinks it might be better if Baby lives with adults. She is sweet and affectionate and the volunteers are working with her on walking on a leash and some basic obedience. If you give her a chance, she’ll be a good girl and be the most loyal friend out there.
Coco is a three year-old terrier mix. Coco was brought to the shelter as an owner-surrender. Coco is a loving active guy. He loves going on long walks and is quite playful. He loves to run and check out his surroundings when he’s let into our pens. Coco has a high prey drive and would prefer to not live in a home with cats or older children due to his activity level. Coco is quite affectionate and loves humans. With someone who is willing to set boundaries and consistent training for this love, he will be a dream dog.
Odin is brand-new to the shelter. He was surrendered when a family member developed allergies to him. He is a 6 year-old lab/terrier mix with Dalmatian-like coloring. He is great with kids and so far he’s been good with other dogs. He really loves everyone he meets! He hasn’t been tested with cats, though. The volunteers say he is the “perfect family dog” so he would like some families to come visit so he can prove them right!
Fred Flintstone — formerly known as Inwood – was found out in the cold by a nice woman who was out looking for her own lost cat. She soon realized Fred Flintstone was very sick and she brought him to Hi Tor. He was rushed to the vet and had to have emergency bladder surgery to remove very painful bladder stones. The shelter raised $1,200 on social media to pay for his treatment. He is all healed now and ready for his forever home. He’ll need to be on special food for the rest of his life so he does not develop stones again. His new family would have to agree to that. Fred Flintstone is a young cat and is still learning his manners so he will need a patient family with no other cats in the house.
Ezra is a 10 year-old senior who came to the shelter as a stray from Orangetown. She has been at the shelter since July 2017. She is shy cat and would need a quiet home. Her adoption fee has been sponsored by one of Hi Tor’s amazing supporters. So as long as her future family met all the adoption requirements, Ezra would be free.
Dora is a gorgeous bunny with a whole lot of sass and attitude – what we like to call sassitude! This beautiful princess is spayed and ready for her forever home. Like all Hi Tor bunnies, Dora is in foster care so please email Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com for more information.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 1/10/19

This handsome guy is Puff. He is about 2 years old and his playful nature reflects his young age. He was surrendered to the shelter when his family moved. He appears to be an American Bulldog mix. Puff is a wonderful boy but, very strong. He will need a family who can handle this strength. But, talk about a big goofy love! He has lived with other dogs, cats and children over ten in his last home. Puff is a sweet dog who often gets overlooked because of his size. For more information on Puff, please visit the shelter or email Doug@hitor.org

Please meet Nova. Nova is a 6 year old terrier mix that has been at the shelter for almost a year. How is this beautiful dog still at the shelter? Well, Nova is not an easy dog and she needs a special family. She is a dog who does not like to be approached. She needs to make the first move and feel safe before she allows you near her. She does warm up once she trusts you, but it will take time. Nova would be best suited for a family with older adults and no children in a quiet home. If you are interested in adding Nova to your family please contact the shelter at (845) 354-7900 or email Doug@hitor.org

Oliver and Ollie are 8 month old kittens who have lived almost their entire life at the shelter. They were found as strays back in July 2018. If you have stepped into our lobby recently, your eyes are immediately drawn to these two! Oliver is the outgoing, playful brother who reaches out and tries to say hello when anyone walks by. Ollie is the shy one. He plays like crazy with his brother but hasn’t yet warmed up to being held. We would like to keep these two sibling brothers together. Please consider adopting them or any of our amazing cats!

Cheddar is a beautiful midnight grey cat with yellow eyes. She is a one and half year old female cat who came to the shelter back in June 2017. She was found in a shed as a stray in Ramapo.

Introducing Quesa & Dilla! These almost 2 year old guinea pig sisters were surrendered yesterday. They are currently in foster care while they wait for their forever family. They are bonded, and must be adopted together. Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com for more information or to fill out an application.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 1/03/19

Sandy is an adorable blonde terrier mix. She’s small in size and has the prettiest face. We believe Sandy lived with our former resident Chet when they were both picked up as strays. Sandy walks nicely on a leash and takes treats gently. She is quite scared at the shelter but, when she comes out of her kennel and is placed in a quiet space, she is much happier. She would need a home with no cats.

Meet Coco, a three-year-old terrier mix. Coco was brought to us as an owner-surrender. Coco is a loving active guy. He loves going on long walks and is quite playful. He loves to run and check out his surroundings when he is let into our pens. Coco has a high prey drive and would prefer to not live in a home with cats and due to his activity level, older children. Coco is quite affectionate and loves humans. With someone who is willing to set boundaries and consistent training for this love, he will be a dream dog.

Baby is quite the cutie. She has a lot to learn but, someone out there can teach her to be a good dog. Being so young she tends to chase things, so she needs someone who will understand that she needs to learn, well, not to chase moving things unless it’s a toy or a ball. Because of that, the staff thinks it might be better that she live with adults. She is sweet and affectionate, and the volunteers are working with her on walking on a leash and some basic obedience. If you give her a chance, she promises she will be a good girl and be the most loyal friend out there.

Meet Julian “Creamsicle” the 3rd. Why do they call this cat that? It just seemed to fit his personality. Julian is about a year old and has been at the shelter since October 2018. He is very friendly. He loves hugs and cuddles. He is FIV+ so he could live with other FIV+ cats.

Marsha is a 10-year-old senior cat. She has been at the shelter since February 2018. She is a friendly, sweet cat who loves to be pet and held. She would prefer to be the only cat in the household. She has not been tested with dogs. She is Leukemia positive, so she would need a family who is familiar with her condition. Marsha’s adoption fee has been sponsored so if you qualify as an adopter, there would be no cost to her adoptive family.

Check out blue-eyed bunny beauty, Madison, (formerly known as Louise). She had a very rough start in life. Rescued from a broken-down hutch in the dead of winter last year, she and her sister combined their two litters to try to save their babies from the bitter cold. They were severely neglected. Within weeks of being rescued, (and 32 days after having her first litter), Madison gave birth to another litter of babies. She was so depleted, we weren’t sure she would survive. Thankfully, with proper medical care, and great care by her foster home she has been spayed and is doing wonderfully. She is completely litter-trained, eats well, and loves her toys. Please send an email to Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 12/27/18

Chaos is a three-year-old brindle Cane Corso who was surrendered to the shelter back in October. Don’t let the name fool you. He loves people and is very gentle. He has lived with children in the past but would prefer no other pets in the household. Chaos is a very strong dog who would need a family who has Cane Corso or similar breed experience. He is about 125 lbs. so he would love a large backyard with lots of room to run and play.

Mystique was brought to the shelter as a stray about three weeks ago. She was found running loose in a department store parking near a busy road in Nanuet. She was found with a note attached to her collar that said “Mystique”. She is believed to be about two years old and possibly a Schnauzer or Irish Wolf Hound mix. She is timid but loves to cuddle and just wants to feel safe in her person’s arms.

Brooklyn is a 6 year-old terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter thru no fault of his own, because his family was evicted. Brooklyn is a very active dog who knows all of his commands. He’s a friendly outgoing boy who will need continued leash training. He is housebroken. Brooklyn should be the only pet in the house and with older teens and adults because he is so active and energetic. He would make a great partner for an outdoorsy couple who would take him on hikes or dips in the lake.

Tinkerbell is a ten-year-old senior cat who is so playful, friendly and loving. She loves lounging in her bed but once she sees someone who is ready to play with her, she is up and ready to go. Tinkerbell’s adoption fee has been sponsored so as long as her future family meets Hi Tor’s adoption standards, she would be free to her new family.

Hi everyone, we’d like you to meet our sweet girl Rosie! Rosie is one of the cuddliest girls you’ll ever meet but unfortunately, she’s had a rough life. She was found with a horrible eye infection and pneumonia when she was little, which has left some damage to one of her eyes. Thankfully she has overcome her tough beginning and is the most loving girl! Rosie has an infinite amount of love to give, so if you’re looking to make a furry addition to your home, please consider Rosie!!! Go to hitor.org to fill out an adoption application and email Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com!

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 12/20/18

Doggies Max and Pebbles are 7 and 8 years old and lived most of their life
together. Max is wishing on a star to find a forever home for himself and his bestie, Pebbles. Max’s personality tends to be quite calm. He enjoys laying on his fluffy bed. He loves treats and is very food-motivated. Pebbles is more particular and has a bit more energy. This pair is quite adorable and love each other very much. If you are looking for a pair of friends who are the perfect balance, here is your duo! These two would prefer a family with older or children or to live with all adults. We also think they’d prefer
to be the only pets, but Pebbles seems a bit more interested in our feral kitties. Help us find these two loves a home and share!

Handsome boy Ryder’s eyes go right into his soul to his heart. He is sweet
and loving. Ryder is a smaller terrier mix and is quite the well-mannered
gentleman. He is believed to be about 3 or 4 years old. He is an absolute
sweetheart and will be the best companion ever. He would need to be the
only pet in the household though.

Camila is a 1-year old Terrier mix. Camila is friendly with people and
walks nicely on a leash. She was one of three dogs surrendered by the same
owner, so she has lived with dogs in the past. She is a gentle and calm dog
who would love nothing more than a family to call her own.

Meet Mac. How is this stunning cat still available? Mac is a young cat (we estimate about 18 months). He came in as a stray back in October and was very shy at first. As time has passed, he has grown more outgoing. Mac loves to be held and is quickly developing into a sweet and happy cat. Can you picture Mac in your Holiday family photos?

Let us introduce you to Linus. This cool cat is a strikingly handsome 8-month-old who came in as a stray back in August when he was very young. His unique white facial markings and deep dark eyes make him a stand out in the front lobby. Both Mac and Linus are waiting for the forever homes at the shelter.

Holiday Royalty! Prince is helping his foster mom prepare for the holidays. This neutered male Dutch rabbit is litter trained, friendly, and very smart. Prince had a rough beginning to his life, so he does have some insecurity issues. We feel it is best for Prince to find a family with adults with older children. Do you have love to give to this poor boy? For more information, please send an email to Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Do you have room in your family for this big mush? If you are interested in this well-mannered mush, please visit the shelter.

Asparagus is described by the staff as an energetic and playful cat who would do well with other cats. He is FIV+ so he would need to go with cats who are also FIV+.
