Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 8/16/18

Belle’s name appropriately reflects her quiet beauty. Belle is a 2 – 3 year old terrier mix. Belle is quite gentle with her people once she gets to know you. She is a bit scared and shy at first but, when she gets comfortable gives endless affection. Give this little beauty a chance.

This sweet girl is Dakota. She is about 4 1/2 years old and was surrendered by her owner.  She is quite shy and learning how to get used to shelter life, which is not an easy task for this sweet girl. Dakota wants to be an only dog. She comes out of her shell when she gets comfortable with her people.

This handsome guy is Puff. He is about 1 1/2 years old and his playful nature reflects his young age. He appears to be an American Bulldog or terrier mix. Puff is a wonderful boy but very strong. He will need an owner who can handle this strength. But, talk about a big goofy love! For more information on Puff, Dakota and Belle, please visit the shelter.

Check out this blue-eyed beauty rabbit! Etta, (formerly known as Louise), had a very rough start in life. Rescued from a broken down hutch in the dead of winter, she and her sister combined their two litters to try to save their babies from the bitter cold. They were severely neglected, with no hay and no water. Within weeks of being rescued, (and 32 days after having her first litter), Etta gave birth to another litter of babies. She was so depleted, we weren’t sure she would survive. Thankfully, with proper medical care, and great care by her foster home, she pulled through. Etta was spayed July 11th and is doing very well! She is completely litter trained, eats well, and loves her toys. She would do best in a home with adults or older children. Etta is 4.4 pounds of pure joy! For information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Amber is a two-year-old all black cat who came to the shelter as a stray from Tompkins Cove after she was found hiding under a trailer. She is described by staff as a feisty girl who would need a home with older children and no other cats. She has been at the shelter since July 2017.

Dusty is a five-and-a-half-year-old domestic short hair. Dusty came to us after being found as a stray underneath a parked car. Dusty would do best as an only cat in a home with adults who have had experience owning cats. He can start off aloof and does need some time to warm up to new people. Amber and Dusty are currently at the shelter, not the Annex.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 8/9/18

Leah is a five year-old female pit bull mix who was surrendered to the shelter two years ago this week because her owner did not have the time for her. Leah would do well in an active home as she loves to run around and play, so she’d do well with kids about 10 and older who can keep up with her. A fenced in yard would be a plus also. Leah loves people and could always use on going obedience training. Leah should also be the only pet in the house. Come meet this bundle of fun!

Rocky came to the shelter back in May. He is a two year-old chocolate brown and white terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter when his family moved away and could not bring him along. Rocky is a calm, sweet dog who walks like a champ on a leash. He is a volunteer favorite because he prances proudly when he walks. Rocky has not been tested with cats and would need a meet and greet with any other dog in the house. If you’re looking for a snuggle bug, Rocky is your dog!

Hope is a ten-and-a-half-year-old female tiger coat green-eyed cat who was surrendered to the shelter in September 2017 from Clarkstown because her owner could no longer care for her. She is a sweet senior cat who would love to live in a home instead of the noisy shelter. Hope has hope that her forever family is out there somewhere.

Hope, Amber and Dusty are currently at the shelter, not the Annex.

Cinderella is a little bunny sweetheart. She’s a lionhead mix and is about 10 months old. She is very social and loves to explore her foster home. Cinderella enjoys watching TV and playing with toys. Cinderella is litter trained. She would make a great addition to a loving home. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 8/2/18

Desert is a six-year-old male pit bull mix who was surrendered to the shelter. Desert is good with other dogs but is not good with cats. For a little guy he’s very strong so he will need a strong experienced owner and for that reason should be in a home with adults only, no children. Desert is very friendly, he’s house broken, and he loves to play with toys. He especially loves to be outside playing and loves when you throw a ball to him. He would do well with an active couple.

This little pint sized three-year-old bully mix is Bee. She is small on stature but don’t let this little petite girl fool you. She will hang with the big dogs when it comes to her distance of walking, playing or any activity that requires physical strength. Bee has a gregarious and exuberant personality. She absolutely adores people. Bee has been with us a couple times and we believe, part of her coming back is her energy has been misunderstood. Bee is a high energy girl and is happiest when she is buzzing with activity. Bee would prefer to be an only pet and live with teenage children. Do you want a bestie whose face will make you melt? If so, come visit Bee at the shelter for more information.

Athena is a one-year old terrier mix. She is one of the youngest pups currently at the shelter. This little sweet girl was picked up as a stray. She loves to play and loves all people! Athena is a puppy and acts so. She will need an owner who will be understanding yet consistent to train her out of some her playful puppy behaviors. We are just getting to know Athena, so please visit the shelter to learn more about her.

This is Smokey the rabbit. Smokey is a playful young boy looking for a family of his own. He is litter-trained and enjoys being in the company of his foster family. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Check out our sweet baby, Bob, you just want to give that face a million kisses! This boy is one of the friendliest kitties that you will EVER meet. The second you sit on the floor he climbs into your lap and plops himself down. Because of his personality, we believe Bob would make a perfect indoor cat! You can send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com to schedule a meet and greet!

Baby Henry and he is such a playful boy! He is always running around and trying to climb on you! Baby Henry is here with his brother Hudson and mommy Alicia that all need forever homes! If you would like to be approved to adopt and would like to set up a meet and greet, please fill out an adoption application (which can be found on hitor.org)

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 7/26/18

Cupcake is a 10 year-old beautiful female mixed breed who was surrendered to the shelter because her owner could not take care of her anymore. She has been at the shelter since April and was very shy and scared, especially since she lived in a home for her first 10 years. She has been slowly coming out of her shell and would need a family who will love and care for her again!

Handsome Sunny has been with us quite a while and come a long way. He is about two years old. He was surrendered to us because his family just didn’t have the time to care for him. Sunny had a hard transition into shelter life but, with the help of amazing volunteers he has learned how to walk amazingly on a leash. He will walk by your side and truly enjoys the company of his people. When the volunteers spend one on one time with him, he gives kisses and thinks he is a lap dog (and we love him so and would never tell him otherwise). Sunny is waiting for his forever family with older children. Please consider sharing Sunny, he’s been at the shelter far longer than he deserves and he will make a family very happy.

Asparagus is a male cat about 2 years old and came to the shelter as a feral stray from Chestnut Ridge in March of 2017. Asparagus is described by the staff as an energetic and playful cat who would do well with other cats. He is FIV+ so he would need to go with cats who are also FIV+. The staff feels he would do best with a family who has owned cats before. How can you not fall in love with his little face?

Gigi is a 1 1/2 year old female DSH. GiGi is an active and energetic cat. She needs a home where she can get plenty of exercise that she needs. GiGi has not shown an interest in the other cats but might be okay living in a home with cats, or just as an only cat. GiGi needs an adult only home with adopters who have had experience owning cats.

Marilyn is a sweet and petite girl 3 1/2-year-old Domestic Short Hair. Marilyn was surrendered to our shelter because her previous owner had too many cats and could not care for all of them. She is a petite and sweet cat. She does need some time to warm up to new people. Marilyn previously lived in a home with other cats and enjoys their company. Marilyn would do best in a home with teens and adults who have had experience owning cats.

Roger is a six month-old neutered male rabbit. He is the most docile bunny you will ever meet. Roger loves children, other bunnies, as well as dogs and cats. Roger is completely litter-trained and is ready for his new home. Just don’t frame him. He doesn’t like that. For more information please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Meet  Mac. His picture certainly doesn’t do him justice because he is a total beauty. Handsome Mac is young at under a year old. With his young age is young energy! We are currently working with Mac having him walk on a leash and learn basic manners. His handlers say he is making progress with his sit, down and stay. He is very active and would need an owner who understood this and they would be active with Mac. He was picked up as a stray. He’s a great boy who just needs an owner to show him boundaries, expectations and love. How could you resist that handsome face? For more information on Mac please call 845-354-7900 or visit Hi Tor Animal Care Center.

Becky is a five-year-old Chihuahua mix who was surrendered by her owners. She is very new so we are still getting to know her but, so far Becky is doing great. We think Becky would be a good fit with older children or adults. She loves attention and will play a funny circle game with her treats to keep people near.

Leah is a 3-year-old female pit bull mix who was surrendered to the shelter because her owner didn’t have the time for her. Leah would do well in an active home as she loves to run around and play, so she would do well with kids about 10 and older who can keep up with her. A fenced in yard would be a plus also. Angel is a 5 year old domestic short hair cat. She has been at the shelter since Oct 2015 and is the longest resident cat at the shelter. Angel came to us after being found as a stray. She is low energy and an affectionate girl. Angel would do best in a quiet, low-traffic home with mature children and adults. She has not shown an interest in other cats but might do okay living with other calm cats like herself. She is on a sensitive food diet so her new family would need to continue her diet. Don’t you think three years is too long to be without a home??

It is time for Thelma to find a loving home where she will get all the love she deserves.

He is a big boy and his playful nature reflects his young age. He is a very, strong dog. Puff will need an owner who can handle his strength and is familiar with large breed dogs. Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 6/21/18

Athena is a one-year old terrier mix pup and she is quite the happy gal! She is new to the shelter but so far, she is fun, friendly and full of energy. Athena had quite the time at her recent photo shoot for her bio picture, especially once she saw her favorite squeaky toys and tennis ball! Athena is still a puppy so she will need a family who is ready to give her lots of time to play and continue her training and leash skills. Do you have room in your home so Athena can become part of your pack?

Khali is about two years old. Khali’s owner dropped this puppy off at a kennel and forgot to come back. Don’t worry it’s ok, the people at the shelter want to find an owner to love Khali as much as Khali will love them! Khali loves snuggling with humans and toys. You can give Khali any toy and happiness abounds! Khali  is strong, so older children would be best. A meet and greet would be most important. Khali is ready to make you the happiest puppy parents out there!

Sir Guinness is here! This confident and majestic looking 2-year-old male cat came to the shelter as a stray but there is nothing shy or timid about Guinness. Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 6/14/18

Dallas is a 3-year-old male bully mix. You may have heard his name before because Dallas has been at the shelter for a very long time. He was surrendered after he was found as a stray at a college campus upstate. Some really cool fraternity guys took him in and let him live with them for a while. Boy I bet that was fun! Once they graduated, one of the guys brought Dallas home with him to Rockland. Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep him so he brought Dallas to the shelter. His dream family is one with older kids or adults where he can be your one and only pet. Dallas is fun and energetic so he needs an experienced dog owner who is patient, calm & assertive. He knows how to sit, lay down, give paw and walk well on a leash. He is also house-trained. His owner should also be active & love to play fetch, if you have a fenced in yard that would be ideal. Car rides, exercising, cuddling next to his humans & giving gentle kisses are all of his favorite things. The volunteers all think he is a goofy silly boy and has the funniest expressions that will make them laugh. Dallas has a lot of love to give and is a good boy but the shelter is overwhelming to him. Would you be the family to give Dallas a second chance?

Brooklyn is a 4-year-old terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter, through no fault of his own, after his family was evicted. If you have ever visited the shelter Brooklyn is the one you will see jumping high in his kennel to try to catch you eyes and make sure you see him first! He has been going to training and has improved his leash and greeting skills. He’s a very smart, friendly and outgoing boy who loves to play fetch with tennis balls! He is also housebroken. Brooklyn should be in a house with no cats and would need a meet and greet with any other dogs. He would love to become part of a family with older teens or just adults.

Molly is a lovely loyal girl looking for her forever home where she can be queen of the castle, so no other pets please! She is a 4-year-old female terrier mix with the most magnificent gray/blue markings. She loves going for walks with her people. Every once in awhile she just stops and smells the air! Molly just enjoys being outside and taking everything in. She have been going to training every week and has improved on all her basic commands. She love love loves car rides and have been getting spoiled on weekends by the volunteers! Some will even let her sleep in their car for hours so She can have some quiet time to nap. Molly has lived with older children in her last home and is really just looking for my perfect forever family. Could that be you?

We’ve got a gorgeous girl here! This is Brielle and you’re probably familiar with her little babies but we wanted to give Brielle her own shout-out! Brielle was taking care of her 5 babies when little Brooke was found by herself on a busy road in Pomona, just a few days old with part of her umbilical cord still attached. Being the wonderful mom that she is, Brielle didn’t hesitate to accept her as her own! Even though we call her mama, she is still a baby herself, being a little under a year old. If you’re looking for a sweet girl that loves to be held, Brielle is the girl for you! If you are considering adopting and would like to set up an appointment, please fill out an adoption application which can be found on hitor.org and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com.

What is more fun than a Jack-In-The-Box? A cat named Larry in a box. You can’t get more handsome than this! Say hello to our loveable Larry! This sweet baby boy is so irresistible! He and his sister Lexi were returned to the shelter by their owner of 3 years. This darling thought that would be his forever home. If you’d like to give Larry a forever home, send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com to schedule a meet and greet!

Jackie is a young female New Zealand. She was found wandering alone outside. She has been spayed, is litter trained, and ready for a family of her own. All of our rabbits are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, making them more calm, healthier, and easier to train. They are all living in foster care being spoiled by our amazing fosters until they find their forever homes. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 6/7/18

Handsome Rocky is one of our newest residents. He is a two-year-old terrier mix who was recently surrendered to the shelter after his owner passed away. The rest of his family had to move to a new house that didn’t allow pets so they were not able to take him with them. He is a friendly and playful dog who gets along with other dogs. Rocky has been really sad since he was surrendered and would love to have a family come visit him. Stop by this weekend and meet Rocky and the rest of our adoptable dogs!

Could Gunner be any cuter with that head tilt. Gunner is a Hound/Pointer/Retriever mix who was found as a stray on Strawtown Road. He has sadly been at the shelter since April of 2017. He’s about two and a half years old and very smart. He learns quickly, loves to go on long nature walks and his favorite toys are squeaky! As you can see, he is beautiful dog with an expressive face who will cuddle up with you, once he gets to know you. We will never know his past but he appears to not have been an “in the house” dog because he was very unsure of how to play with toys or walk on a leash when he first arrived. But Gunner has been working very hard to learn how to play gently with his toys. He is mastering his leash skills thanks to some awesome volunteers who take him to the weekly training class and one volunteer even took him home this past weekend. Do you have experience with the Hound breed? If you do, then Gunner is the dog for you! He would prefer a home with no cats. He gets along with most dogs his size or bigger, but would need a meet and greet to make sure. Since he is still learning his toy and food manners, Gunner would need to be in a home with children older than 10. If you are interested in Gunner, please call the shelter.

Becky is a five-year-old Chihuahua mix who was surrendered by her owners. She is new so we are still getting to know her but, so far Becky is doing great. The volunteers are having a great time dressing her up in all kinds of cute outfits and Becky really seems to love it! We think Becky would be a good fit for a family with older children or adults. She loves attention and will play a funny circle game with her treats to keep people near!

Gorgeous alert! This is baby Fabiana and she is the sweetest little fluffball you will ever meet! If you would like to be pre-approved to adopt and would like to set up a meet and greet, please fill out an adoption application (which can be found on hitor.org) and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com. You must fill out an application to be considered for an adoption.

Cuteness overload! This is baby Luciana and she is Fabianna’s sister. Last week we featured her brother Alejandro and her mommy Bettina, so this week it’s the sister’s turn. This entire family is going to need forever homes very soon! If you have room in your home for a kitten or for momma Bettina please consider filling out an application. This entire family is currently being cared for at the Hi Tor Annex.

Luke Skyhopper was rescued from life in an outdoor hutch, this one-year old male spot mix rabbit is litter trained, loves his greens, and actually poses for pictures! Luke will be neutered prior to adoption. He is looking for an indoor home with a loving family. Luke is currently living in a foster home since March. If you have always wanted to share your home with a little one but weren’t sure what’s involved, please contact us. Hi Tor can put you in touch with experienced rabbit and small animal owners who will be happy to share their experiences with you. These sweethearts make wonderful pets when properly cared for. They are, however a long-term commitment and a considerable amount of work. Email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com for more information.
