Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 6/21/18

Athena is a one-year old terrier mix pup and she is quite the happy gal! She is new to the shelter but so far, she is fun, friendly and full of energy. Athena had quite the time at her recent photo shoot for her bio picture, especially once she saw her favorite squeaky toys and tennis ball! Athena is still a puppy so she will need a family who is ready to give her lots of time to play and continue her training and leash skills. Do you have room in your home so Athena can become part of your pack?

Khali is about two years old. Khali’s owner dropped this puppy off at a kennel and forgot to come back. Don’t worry it’s ok, the people at the shelter want to find an owner to love Khali as much as Khali will love them! Khali loves snuggling with humans and toys. You can give Khali any toy and happiness abounds! Khali  is strong, so older children would be best. A meet and greet would be most important. Khali is ready to make you the happiest puppy parents out there!

Sir Guinness is here! This confident and majestic looking 2-year-old male cat came to the shelter as a stray but there is nothing shy or timid about Guinness. He will follow the staff around to try to grab their attention so he can get as many cuddles as possible! He has been tested with other cats and he has done well so far.

Ms. Grey is a very sweet two-year-old female cat who was found as a stray outside a home. The homeowner was unable to keep her because of the other pets so she brought her to the shelter. Ms. Grey is good with other cats and loves people.

Blacky is a one-year-old male who lived in a home with 4 other cats. He was surrendered when his owner had to move. He is very sweet, likes to be around other cats and people! Blacky, Grey and Guinness are currently at Hi Tor shelter not the Annex. Please call Kelli for at Hi Tor for more information.

Sheldon is a three-month-old little guy and was the runt of the Pipette litter. He was bullied by his brother, resulting in him losing a part of his ear. Sheldon is gentle and sweet and needs a home with a family who will love him forever and understand that he is a sensitive baby. For more information email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 6/14/18

Dallas is a 3-year-old male bully mix. You may have heard his name before because Dallas has been at the shelter for a very long time. He was surrendered after he was found as a stray at a college campus upstate. Some really cool fraternity guys took him in and let him live with them for a while. Boy I bet that was fun! Once they graduated, one of the guys brought Dallas home with him to Rockland. Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep him so he brought Dallas to the shelter. His dream family is one with older kids or adults where he can be your one and only pet. Dallas is fun and energetic so he needs an experienced dog owner who is patient, calm & assertive. He knows how to sit, lay down, give paw and walk well on a leash. He is also house-trained. His owner should also be active & love to play fetch, if you have a fenced in yard that would be ideal. Car rides, exercising, cuddling next to his humans & giving gentle kisses are all of his favorite things. The volunteers all think he is a goofy silly boy and has the funniest expressions that will make them laugh. Dallas has a lot of love to give and is a good boy but the shelter is overwhelming to him. Would you be the family to give Dallas a second chance?

Brooklyn is a 4-year-old terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter, through no fault of his own, after his family was evicted. If you have ever visited the shelter Brooklyn is the one you will see jumping high in his kennel to try to catch you eyes and make sure you see him first! He has been going to training and has improved his leash and greeting skills. He’s a very smart, friendly and outgoing boy who loves to play fetch with tennis balls! He is also housebroken. Brooklyn should be in a house with no cats and would need a meet and greet with any other dogs. He would love to become part of a family with older teens or just adults.

Molly is a lovely loyal girl looking for her forever home where she can be queen of the castle, so no other pets please! She is a 4-year-old female terrier mix with the most magnificent gray/blue markings. She loves going for walks with her people. Every once in awhile she just stops and smells the air! Molly just enjoys being outside and taking everything in. She have been going to training every week and has improved on all her basic commands. She love love loves car rides and have been getting spoiled on weekends by the volunteers! Some will even let her sleep in their car for hours so She can have some quiet time to nap. Molly has lived with older children in her last home and is really just looking for my perfect forever family. Could that be you?

We’ve got a gorgeous girl here! This is Brielle and you’re probably familiar with her little babies but we wanted to give Brielle her own shout-out! Brielle was taking care of her 5 babies when little Brooke was found by herself on a busy road in Pomona, just a few days old with part of her umbilical cord still attached. Being the wonderful mom that she is, Brielle didn’t hesitate to accept her as her own! Even though we call her mama, she is still a baby herself, being a little under a year old. If you’re looking for a sweet girl that loves to be held, Brielle is the girl for you! If you are considering adopting and would like to set up an appointment, please fill out an adoption application which can be found on hitor.org and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com.

What is more fun than a Jack-In-The-Box? A cat named Larry in a box. You can’t get more handsome than this! Say hello to our loveable Larry! This sweet baby boy is so irresistible! He and his sister Lexi were returned to the shelter by their owner of 3 years. This darling thought that would be his forever home. If you’d like to give Larry a forever home, send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com to schedule a meet and greet!

Jackie is a young female New Zealand. She was found wandering alone outside. She has been spayed, is litter trained, and ready for a family of her own. All of our rabbits are spayed/neutered prior to adoption, making them more calm, healthier, and easier to train. They are all living in foster care being spoiled by our amazing fosters until they find their forever homes. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 6/7/18

Handsome Rocky is one of our newest residents. He is a two-year-old terrier mix who was recently surrendered to the shelter after his owner passed away. The rest of his family had to move to a new house that didn’t allow pets so they were not able to take him with them. He is a friendly and playful dog who gets along with other dogs. Rocky has been really sad since he was surrendered and would love to have a family come visit him. Stop by this weekend and meet Rocky and the rest of our adoptable dogs!

Could Gunner be any cuter with that head tilt. Gunner is a Hound/Pointer/Retriever mix who was found as a stray on Strawtown Road. He has sadly been at the shelter since April of 2017. He’s about two and a half years old and very smart. He learns quickly, loves to go on long nature walks and his favorite toys are squeaky! As you can see, he is beautiful dog with an expressive face who will cuddle up with you, once he gets to know you. We will never know his past but he appears to not have been an “in the house” dog because he was very unsure of how to play with toys or walk on a leash when he first arrived. But Gunner has been working very hard to learn how to play gently with his toys. He is mastering his leash skills thanks to some awesome volunteers who take him to the weekly training class and one volunteer even took him home this past weekend. Do you have experience with the Hound breed? If you do, then Gunner is the dog for you! He would prefer a home with no cats. He gets along with most dogs his size or bigger, but would need a meet and greet to make sure. Since he is still learning his toy and food manners, Gunner would need to be in a home with children older than 10. If you are interested in Gunner, please call the shelter.

Becky is a five-year-old Chihuahua mix who was surrendered by her owners. She is new so we are still getting to know her but, so far Becky is doing great. The volunteers are having a great time dressing her up in all kinds of cute outfits and Becky really seems to love it! We think Becky would be a good fit for a family with older children or adults. She loves attention and will play a funny circle game with her treats to keep people near!

Gorgeous alert! This is baby Fabiana and she is the sweetest little fluffball you will ever meet! If you would like to be pre-approved to adopt and would like to set up a meet and greet, please fill out an adoption application (which can be found on hitor.org) and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com. You must fill out an application to be considered for an adoption.

Cuteness overload! This is baby Luciana and she is Fabianna’s sister. Last week we featured her brother Alejandro and her mommy Bettina, so this week it’s the sister’s turn. This entire family is going to need forever homes very soon! If you have room in your home for a kitten or for momma Bettina please consider filling out an application. This entire family is currently being cared for at the Hi Tor Annex.

Luke Skyhopper was rescued from life in an outdoor hutch, this one-year old male spot mix rabbit is litter trained, loves his greens, and actually poses for pictures! Luke will be neutered prior to adoption. He is looking for an indoor home with a loving family. Luke is currently living in a foster home since March. If you have always wanted to share your home with a little one but weren’t sure what’s involved, please contact us. Hi Tor can put you in touch with experienced rabbit and small animal owners who will be happy to share their experiences with you. These sweethearts make wonderful pets when properly cared for. They are, however a long-term commitment and a considerable amount of work. Email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com for more information.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 5/31/18

Calling all Bulldog lovers, boy do we have someone for you! Ralphie is a two-and-a-half-year-old English Bulldog who was surrendered by his family because he was not getting along with the other dog in the house. He would love a family who knows a lot about his breed. He likes short walks, long naps and prefers the cooler weather. Pure breeds don’t last long at the shelter so if you are interested in Ralphie, call the staff at 845-354-7900.

The Champ is here!! Well, our Champ is here. Champ is a one-year old black lab mixed breed who was surrendered to the shelter by his family a little over a month ago. Champ is a strong and active dog like most labs. He is new, so the volunteers are helping him work on his manners and leash skills. Champ would be best suited for a family with teenage children or an active couple with no other pets. Come by and check out our Champy-boy!

Bandit is also a newbie to the shelter. He is a three-year-old Hound mix who was surrendered by his family. Bandit is a big boy with a goofy smile who will win your heart over! Bandit is very new, so he is still being evaluated with other dogs and cats. If you have experience with large hounds, you should stop by or call the shelter to schedule to meet him.

Handsome alert!! This is baby Alejandro! He is the sweetest little fluffball you will ever meet! Baby Alejandro is here with his two sisters that will all need forever homes very soon! If you would like to be pre-approved to adopt and would like to set up a meet-and-greet, please fill out an adoption application. You WILL NOT be considered for adoption until you have filled out an application.

Bettina and her babies are available for pre-adoption! You can download the adoption application at hitor.org and send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com once you have completed it!

He is absolutely the most friendly and gentle bunny you will ever meet. He will sit on your lap for hours and lap up all the love you can give him. For more information about Snowball, email Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 5/24/18

This girl can work a crowd, for sure. Remy is almost two years old and available for adoption. This gorgeous brindle baby is active and friendly. Her favorite thing to do at the shelter is visit adoption events to meet and greet any human who will be her new friend! She’s friendly around new people. Everyone who handles her describes her as sweet. Remy is working on her basic commands. She knows sit and is beginning to learn down and stay. She would prefer to be the only fur kid and live in the company of adult-sized people. For further information on Remy, please contact Hi Tor at (845) 354-7900.

This handsome guy is Sunny. Sunny has been with the shelter quite a while and he’s come a long way. He is about two years old. He was surrendered to the shelter because his family just didn’t have the time to care for him. Sunny had a hard transition into shelter life but, with the help of amazing volunteers he has learned how to walk amazingly on a leash. He will walk by your side and truly enjoys the company of his people. When the volunteers spend one-on-one time with him, he gives kisses and thinks he is a lap dog (and we love him so and would never tell him otherwise). Sunny is waiting for his forever family with older children. Please consider sharing Sunny, he’s been at the shelter far longer than he deserves and he will make a family very happy.

Meet Haze, he is one of the only senior pups at Hi Tor. He is about 10 years old and was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of his own. His owner became very sick and could no longer care for him. Haze lived his whole life with another dog so if you have a dog, with a proper meet and greet, he might like some company. For more information about Haze, or for a pre-adoption application, visit www.hitor.org.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 5/10/18

Look deep into his eyes!! Could Gunner be any cuter with that head tilt. Gunner is Hound/Pointer/Retriever mix who was found as a stray on Strawtown Road. He has sadly been at the shelter since April of 2017. He’s about 2 years old and very smart. He can also be shy toward strangers when he first meets them. But Gunner has been working very hard to learn how to play gently with his toys. He is mastering his leash skills thanks to some awesome volunteers who take him to the weekly training class. Do you have experience with the Hound/Retriever breed? If you do, then Gunner is the dog for you! He would prefer a home with no cats because he seems to think they are very fun to chase! He gets along with some dogs his size or bigger, but would need a meet and greet to make sure. Since he is still learning his toy and food manners, Gunner would need to be in a home with children older than 12. If you are interested in Gunner, please call the shelter.

This little pint-sized almost three-year-old bully mix is Bee. She is small on stature but don’t let this little petite girl fool you. She will hang with the big dogs when it comes to her distance of walking, playing or any activity that requires physical strength. Bee has a gregarious and exuberant personality. She absolutely adores people. Bee has been with us a couple times and we believe, part of her coming back is her energy has been misunderstood. Bee is a high-energy girl and is happiest when she has a lot of activity such as long walks and playing time. She would really benefit from an owner who will include Bee in their long walks and hikes. Bee would prefer to be an only pet and live with teenage children. Do you want a bestie whose face will make you melt and will be able to keep up with you on your long walks and hikes? If so, come visit Bee at the shelter.

Hope is a 10 1/2-year-old female tiger coat green-eyed cat who was surrendered to the shelter in September 2017 from Clarkstown because her owner could no longer care for her. She is a sweet senior cat who would love to live in a home instead of the noisy shelter. Hope has hope that her forever family is out there somewhere.

Asparagus is a nearly two year-old male cat who came to the shelter as a feral stray from Chestnut Ridge in March 2017. Asparagus is described by the staff as an energetic and playful cat who would do well with other cats. He is FIV+ so he would need to go with cats who are also FIV+. The staff feels he would do best with a family who has owned cats before. How can you not fall in love with his little face? Both Asparagus and Hope are both at the shelter not the annex.

Cinderella is a friendly 9-month-old female lionhead bunny mix with soft fluffy black fur, and a cuddly personality! Cinderella loves children and other gentle pets. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 4/26/18

Wonderful Goldie is a three year-old terrier mix. Goldie’s owner passed away and his grandchildren took her in. They could no longer care for this cutie and she was surrendered to Hi Tor. We can’t imagine how Goldie feels to lose her best friend but, we know she was well cared-for. She is not only sweet and loving, she walks amazing on a leash, is gentle and well-behaved. If you want a well-mannered, sweet gal, Goldie is your pup! Goldie is looking for her life to go back to the way it was when she had her own person! This girl will aim to please and we know will be an amazing companion.

Handsome Champ is a young sweet boy. Champ is about a year and half. He was surrendered to the shelter recently with his brother. Champ’s brother went to his forever home but Champ remains with us. He’s is a bit shy at first, which could very well be because of all the change of losing his family, brother and being at the busy shelter but, with time he grows to trust again, and besides, he is a wiggly cutie! Champ has the cutest tail that coils up like a little piggy’s tail. This sweet boy is looking for someone who gives their love and time to see what an amazing sweet boy he is. As we get to know Champ we will continue to update you more about him.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 4/19/18

Nova is a 6 year-old wired-haired mixed breed little lady. She was brought to the shelter after her owners moved and left her behind with the new tenants. The new tenants could not care for her so they surrendered her. She was very scared when she came to the shelter and would not let many people near her. She was also very matted and unkept. After a couple weeks of slowly introducing ourselves to her, and a new haircut, Nova has come out of her shell. She loves to go on walks and jumps happily on her back legs all the way up the shelter’s driveway. If a volunteer tries to sit with her she buries her face in their lap. Nova has come a long way and her forever family will have to continue the training she has started.

Becky is a 5 year-old Chihuahua mix who was surrendered by her owner. She is very new so we are still getting to know her but so far Becky is doing great. We think Becky would be best suited for a household with no young children. She loves attention and will play a funny circle game with her treats to keep the volunteers near her.

Layla is a 1 1/2 to 2 year-old German Shepherd who was brought to the shelter as a stray. She came in a little underweight and did not know how to walk on a leash. She is friendly and likes all her human visitors. The shelter would prefer Layla go to a family who has prior German Shepherd experience because she will need lots of continued training. Layla has been gaining weight and really enjoyed her first bath by the shelter staff so we feel she is ready to find her forever home — it would ease our worried minds if that could be you. If you are interested in Layla, Becky or Nova, please stop by the shelter and speak to staff or fill out an adoption application by visiting the Hi Tor website at www.hitor.org.

Angel is as cute as pie! This 9-month-old male lop bunny has the most beautiful ruby eyes! He was dumped because, (according to his owner), he isn’t tiny and cute anymore. Thankfully, a caring volunteer from Care About the Strays Rescue was there to help this little guy. Angel is having a wonderful time learning how to live as a house rabbit.

Arielle is a little black and white ball of fluff. We were informed that this bunny was born sometime last June, so Arielle is estimated to be about 10 months old. Arielle is currently in foster care but wants nothing more than to hop her way into your heart and home. If you would like to meet Arielle or Angel, please email Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Check out this bonded pair! Say hello to Lexi and Larry everyone! These sweet babies are so adorable. Lexi and her brother Larry were returned to the shelter by their owner of 3 years for unknown reasons. These two sadly thought they would be spending the rest of their lives in that home. If you’d like to give Lexi and/or Larry a forever home, please send an email to Nixie at gentlesouls@aol.com to schedule a meet and greet!

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 4/12/18

Titan is a big, strong, guy but he is also a giant moosh who is calm and loves to be around people. Titan has quickly become a volunteer favorite. Everyone just wants to squeeze his cheeks. He has stolen many hearts since he got to the shelter. Titan has been working very hard with the volunteers on his leash skills and his commands. He was recently spayed so he is ready for adoption and we are sure he is going to make a great family pet.

Meet Haze, he is one of the only senior pups at Hi Tor. He is about 10 years old and was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of his own.
