Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 4/18/19

We are pleased to announce last week, Chaos, Prime, Puff, Belle, Mya, Misha, Bertha and Snowball were all adopted!!

Meet Lucky, he hasn’t been so lucky recently. He is a 3-year-old Wheaten Terrier that was surrendered to Hi Tor a few weeks ago because he was not getting along with the young kids in the house. He is not typical of the dogs we usually get at the shelter. He is very sweet but is so scared with all the big dogs around. Like most Wheatens, he has skin allergies, so he needs to be on special food for rest of his life. When he was first posted he was shared all over and everyone wanted him, unfortunately no one ever came for him. Because of the circumstances surrounding why he was surrendered, he should probably only live with teenagers and adults. Wheaten experience would be preferred. He does get along with other calm dogs his size and doesn’t seem to mind cats.

Let us introduce you to Pebbles and Max. Pebbles is an 8-year-old female Staffie mix and Max is an 8-year-old Bulldog mix. Pebbles and Max have lived their entire lives together and were surrendered together. Sadly, these senior pups have now been at the shelter for six months. We would love if these two could be adopted as a pair, but it may be time for us to try to find them their own homes. Max is a goofy calm boy who keeps his Pebbles comfortable and grounded. Pebbles seems to like her canine bestie Max, but not other canines so much. These two are a lovely pair and they enjoy human companionship. If you are interested in this perfect pair, please fill out an adoption application and visit Hi Tor.

We promise you will adore Storm. She is a two-year-old Boston terrier/pit mix. She was brought to Hi Tor from a very kind vet. She had a common infection and had not been spayed. Her former owner decided there was something wrong with her and no longer wanted to keep her. It has taken some time for her to adjust to the shelter. She was not used to walking on the leash and liked to run after anything furry so at this point she cannot live with other pets. Storm would benefit from an experienced dog owner and someone who wants to stay active with her. Storm completed her 70th mile yesterday running with her Hi Tor Dog Trotters partner. She is super affectionate and loves sitting next to her favorite people. Oh yeah, and she give lots of kisses. Email Doug@hitor.org for information on Lucky, Max, Pebbles or Storm.

Missy is a very special cat. She just recently came to the shelter as part of a hoarding situation. She is 11 years young and is so full of life. She’s had a rough life but we want to change that for her. Missy is not on any medications or special diets like most seniors her age. She is playful and would make a great companion cat. She is friendly, calm and social, so with the proper introduction she could live with another cat. For more information on Missy email Amber@hitor.org.

Little Bella the bunny needs a new home. Her owners, due to a change in circumstances, are not home enough to give her the attention she needs. All of Hi Tor’s bunnies stay in a foster home until they are adopted because it’s best for the bunnies. Can you help us out and give Bella a place where she can get some love and attention until we find her forever home? Or maybe you have enough room in your house to be her forever home? Please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 4/11/19

Hi world, this is Baby. The volunteers think she is quite a cutie. She is active and still young at only 2 years old. She does tend to chase small furry things, so she needs someone who will understand that she needs guidance and structure to not chase moving things unless it’s a toy or a ball. Because of that, the staff thinks it might be better that she live with adults. Baby is sweet and affectionate. The volunteers are working with her on walking on a leash and some basic obedience. If you give her a chance, we promise she will be the most loyal friend out there.

Sandy is an adorable 1 1/2-year-old terrier mix. She’s so small in size and has the prettiest face. All you want to do is schmoosh her little cheeks. We believe Sandy lived with our former resident Chet at one point. Sandy sadly spent most of her short life in a crate and was not treated so nicely. Sandy walks great on a harness and takes treats gently. She loves every person she meets. She is still quite strong and gets a little overwhelmed with too much excitement but when she comes out of her kennel and is placed in a quiet space, she is so much happier. Please consider adding Sandy to your family. For more info email Doug@hitor.org.

Check out Clifford! We think he is only about one to two years old. Watch out world, he is a heartbreaker! He is a big playful puppy just looking for a family. He has the body and size of a German Shepherd and the fur coloring similar to a shepherd but, if you look at his face he looks like a Hound! He is so much fun but does sometimes need a little direction. The volunteers adore him and are teaching him to walk nicely on a leash…Clifford is a stunning dog who will make a great family dog for a family with older children and large dog experience.

Gigi is a girl who knows what she wants! She is happy to tell you in the sassiest of Gigi kitty sounds whether she likes something or not. She like being close and will happily brush against her people but, don’t take her affection as a sign that she wants to always be picked up because sometimes, a girl just wants what she wants. Gigi is a 3 yr old female. GiGi is an active and energetic cat. She needs a home where she can get plenty of exercise. GiGi has not shown an interest in the other cats but might be okay living in a home with cats, or just as an only cat. GiGi needs an adult only home with adopters who have had experience owning cats.

Boo is a one and a half years old female cat who came to the shelter as a feral but we soon realized she would make a great house cat. She is good with other cats but would prefer a house with teens and adults. She seems a bit shy when you first meet Boo but after a couple pets on the head she warms up to you pretty quickly. If you are interested in Gigi or Boo please email Amber@hitor.org.

Melody is a one-year-old spayed female New Zealand mix rabbit. She is super friendly, playful, litter trained and oh so smart! Melody would do well in a home with adults as well as gentle children. She also loves other animals. For more information, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 4/4/19

972 days at the shelter….Brooklyn is a 6-year-old tuxedo terrier mix who was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of his own when his family was evicted. Brooklyn is a very friendly outgoing boy who recently has become the first dog in the new Hi Tor Dog Trotters Club! Brooklyn loves to run and has benefited, both behaviorally and emotionally, from this new running club! He would make the perfect partner for a runner, hiker, biker or walker. He is so smart and knows all his commands and even a few tricks. He is neutered and housebroken. Brooklyn should be with older teens and adults because he is so active. For more info on Brooklyn, please email Doug@hitor.org

You might remember Buster’s cute face being shared all over because he was found tied up to a store in Suffern and left all alone on March 4th. No one ever came for him so now he is available for adoption. The staff is guessing Buster is about 4 years old. He is a calm, low-key kind of dog. He likes to explore the outdoors but doesn’t need to walk far. He enjoys sitting with the volunteers and listening to them talk about all the dogs. He hasn’t been tested with cats yet, but he doesn’t seem to mind other dogs. So, if you have another dog, Buster would love to try to meet with her or him. He hasn’t been around a lot of little kids yet, but they may take him out this weekend to see how he does. If you’re interested in Buster email Doug@hitor.org or come visit him this weekend!

Sparky was adopted from Hi Tor as a young pup about 3 years ago. He was brought back in November because his owner could no longer keep him when he moved to a new apartment. He is an independent, handsome, active dog who loves to be outside! Like Brooklyn, Sparky was recently chosen as another dog to run with the Hi Tor Dog Trotters club. He loves this program a lot and gets so excited when he sees his running partner coming to get him! His manners and temperament really have improved now that he gets to exercise a couple days a week. Sparky still needs a little work and would have to be the only furry being in the house. He should also only go to a home with teenagers and adults. Little humans sometimes make him nervous. Please email Doug@hitor.org if you are interested in Sparky. Being back at the shelter has been hard on him and he would love nothing more than to have a home again.

Grayson is about a year old. This stray cat was brought to the shelter last June. Grayson is quite handsome, but no one has really been interested in adopting him. We are not sure why he doesn’t catch people’s eye. The volunteers and staff enjoy just hanging around with him, but he is not much into to being carried. He just wants to lounge with you. A year is a long time to not have a home. For more information on Grayson, please email amber@hitor.org.

Don’t let the name fool you. Boris is a female 2 1/2 year-old cat. She was brought to the shelter with her sister, Barbie, who is also up for adoption. She really doesn’t mind cats and she very much enjoys people. If you are looking for a bestie in your home, Boris is your cat! She promises to love you, cuddle you and be the cat you always wanted. For more information on Boris, please email amber@hitor.org.

Meet Leah and Lulu, and they are lifetime BBFs — “best bunny friends” — and they need a home together. They truly are “snuggle” bunnies! The shelter needs to find them a foster home ASAP. Their foster mom is moving out of state! If you can be their new foster home — or maybe you want to keep them for yourselves, please email hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 3/28/19

Dakota is in a foster home but, they will be moving her soon. She is a white and tan Terrier/American Bulldog mix. Her favorite thing to is cuddle. There is nothing in life she wants more than to lay on the couch and cuddle her humans. Dakota’s life was hard before, she lived in a scary place with lots of dogs. Sometimes she hears noises and jumps but otherwise she is pretty quiet. She would like a calm home. She likes to chase cats and other critters, so she may do better as an only pup. Please help Dakota find a home. For more information email doug@hitor.org. You can also fill out an application at www.hitor.org/adoption-application.

Buster came to the shelter recently as a stray. We thought for sure his family would look for him but, he’s still here. Buster was found tied up in front of a store front and no one ever claimed him. The vets say he is young, probably four years old. That’s old enough to not act like a puppy but young enough to still be active with you. He came in looking well-fed and healthy so somebody cared for him. Buster is still new so everyone is learning about him but, so far he walks well on a leash. He sat very nicely when they took his photos. If you have any questions about Buster email doug@hitor.org. You can fill out an adoption application at www.hitor.org/adoption-applications. Please help us get Buster a home.

Coco is a three year-old terrier mix. Coco was brought in as an owner-surrender. Coco is a loving active guy. He loves going on long walks and is quite playful. He loves to run and check out his surroundings when he’s let into our pens. Coco needs to live in a home with no cats and due to his activity level, older children. Coco is quite affectionate and loves humans. He lived with a very small dog in his old home so we think he could live with another dog after the proper meeting. Coco needs someone who is willing to set boundaries and provide consistent training. He will be a dream dog.

Cats Chocolate Chip and Tink were surrendered together by their owner in August 2018 when a family member developed allergies. They are both seven and a half year old females. They are bonded so we would like to keep them together. Their adoption fees have been sponsored by a generous donor so as long as a potential adopter meets all the adoption requirements, there would be no cost to adopt both. For more information, email Amber@hitor.org.

Our beautiful cat Barbie is a two-and-a-half year-old cat who was sadly returned to us recently when she was not getting along with the other cats in the house. We don’t think she needs to be the only cat but may do best with just one other cat. This gorgeous girl is going to go fast so email Amber@hitor.org soon!

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 3/21/19

Check out Clifford! Yup, he is stunning. He is new to the shelter and came in as a stray. Watch out world, he is a heartbreaker! At only about 2, he is a big, strong, playful puppy! He has fur that feels like a shepherd but if you look at his face he looks like a hound! Clifford is so much fun but, sometimes needs a little direction. The volunteers adore him and are trying to teach him to walk nicely on a leash. We are still learning about him but, will keep you updated. Until then, if you want to know more or come meet me, email doug@hitor.org.

This is Prime. He is an 8-year-old terrier mix who came to Hi Tor in late February when his family needed to move, and the landlord wouldn’t let him or his brother stay. Prime really needs a home to just be able to relax and be with his people. He misses having people and a family. The shelter staff and volunteers adore him, and we think he adores them. He loves every person he meets. You’ll notice his adorable tail wag, it’s just a laid-back sway, just like him. He is very calm, knows his basic obedience and walk quite nicely on the leash. Come meet this handsome guy.

Please meet Thor. He loves people; especially ones who give him belly rubs. He loves sitting on laps (terriers are always lap dogs, in case you didn’t know). You will have a new best friend just by giving him a good scratch. Belly, back, chest…you name it. Thor does not really get along with dogs, but he lived with children and a cat in his old home. His family had some hard times and had to give up Thor and his feline sibling. We know it must have been the hardest thing ever. Thor just really wants to live in a home where he can lay on the couch all day with his people and go for nice long walks.

Cici is a gorgeous 6 1/2 year-old. She has been at the shelter for so long and she really wants her own home. You can find her in the lobby, because she loves to reach out her little paw and say hello to everyone that walks in. She was surrendered because she did not get along with the other cats in the house. In her defense, there were a lot of them and she was a stray cat, so it was a little overwhelming for her. If you think she would be a great fit for your home, email Amber@hitor.org!

Gigi is a perfect example of a misunderstood cat. She is about 3 ½ years old and sometimes doesn’t appear friendly at first. But once you get her out of her cage and into the outdoor cat patio, after a few minutes to adjust, she turns into the biggest love mush ever! If anyone is looking for a cat that needs a chance, please consider Gigi!

Meet Rae and Roger, our snuggle bunnies! Rae and Roger were found outside as strays. They bonded together in adversity and now are happy and healthy bunnies. Rae and Roger love each other and must be adopted as a pair. Both bunnies are friendly and smart and interactive with their foster family. They are looking for a special forever home where they can stay together and be your bunny pals. If interested, please email us at Hitorbunnytrail@gmail.com.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 3/14/19

Dallas is a 5-year-old male tuxedo pibble mix who has been at the shelter since Aug 2015. He is one of the longest residents. He was surrendered after he was found as a stray at a college upstate. Some cool fraternity guys took him in and let him live with them for a while. Once they graduated, one student brought him home with him to Rockland. Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep Dallas, so he was brought to the shelter. Dallas needs a family with older kids or adults where he can be the one and only pet. He is fun and energetic, so he needs an experienced dog owner who is patient, calm and assertive. He knows how to sit, lay down, give paw and walks well on a leash. He is also house-trained. Dallas would be the best fit for a family who will be active and love to play fetch, if you have a fenced-in yard that would be ideal. Car rides, exercising, cuddling next to his humans and giving gentle kisses are all his favorite things. Would you be the family to give him a second chance? Please email Doug@hitor.org.

Khali was brought to the shelter two days after Christmas in 2017. She is about 4 years old. Her former owner dropped her off at a kennel and never came back to pick her up. She loves snuggling with her people and toys. She has been to training so she walks well on a leash and knows how to sit for a treat. Give her any toy and it will make her the happiest puppy on the planet. Khali would do best with older teens due to her strength since she does sometimes get a little excited. For more information on Khali please check her out on Petfinder.com.

Next month makes one year that petite Belle was surrendered to the shelter. Her name appropriately reflects her quiet beauty. Belle is a 2 ½ year-old terrier mix. Belle is quite gentle with her people once she gets to know them. Her favorite pasttimes are car rides and belly rubs. She loves to be the center of attention when people are around and is always full of affection. Give this little beauty a chance. To get to know more about Belle, please visit www.hitor.org.

Blackie is a sweet lap cat who has a purr that reminds you of a pigeon cooing. She would do best as the only cat in the home but since she is so loving you won’t need another pet. She is 6 years old and would make such a loving companion for a family. It has been said by many people that her picture does not do her justice. She is so much more than just the way she looks.

At 13 years old, Sweetie is one of the most senior cats at the shelter. She is so sad and is not doing well in the shelter. She loves her fur to be brushed with a soft brush by her favorite volunteer, Nancy. Sweetie likes to get comfy on your lap and just sit quietly since she has slowed down over the years. Sweetie would do best as the only pet or in a home where she could be kept separate from other pets.

Monkey is an active fun kitty who is about 11 months old. She loves to play with her glitter wand and is always reaching out to grab you as you walk by her kennel. She actually meows good morning to the staff as they come in each day. For more info on Blackie, Sweetie and Monkey, please email Amber@hitor.org.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 3/7/19

Bumble is six years-old and was brought into the shelter when he was surrendered. Apparently, his owner didn’t want him anymore. He is a big dog in a little dog’s body. The volunteers see his underbite and it makes them fall in love. Bumble is pretty sweet and innocent but he needs a special home.

Storm wants love from her very own family who loves her. Storm is a two year-old terrier mix. She was brought to Hi Tor from a very kind vet. She had a urinary tract infection and had not been spayed and her owner decided there was something wrong and didn’t want her anymore. Storm is a high energy dog but she loves her people. For more info on Bumble or Storm email Doug@hitor.org

Casey is a frisky furball. He is a one year-old brown tabby. He has sadly been at the shelter since September 2017. He was picked up as a stray and has not found his forever home yet. He waits every day in the lobby to be chosen. He is an active and loving boy. He would love to play with his new family for hours. Casey does get a little excited at times, so he should live with older children.

Handsome Gary is a two-year-old grey tabby who has been at the shelter since August 2018. He is a very active cat. He loves to give love and he plays and plays with his furry toy mouse. If you take Gary home, you will have endless hours of entertainment. Gary should also live with older children or adults.

Sophie is a special six-year-old cat. She first came to the shelter with a terrible eye ulcer forcing the vets to perform emergency surgery to remove her eye. She has the most beautiful kitty soul. She loves to be pet, doesn’t mind being snuggled and loves to play! Her all-time favorite toy is an empty cardboard box. Sophie does truly deserve a happy place. If you are interested in Sophie, Casey or Gary, please fill out an application at www.hitor.org or you can visit the shelter or contact Amber via email: amber@hitor.org.

Bunny Violet was brought into Hi Tor, sadly as another stray. This absolutely stunning female Rex is just exquisite. Her fur is the softest you will ever touch. She is enjoying all the attention she is getting and eating up quite a storm! She absolutely loves head rubs and melts in your hands.

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 2/28/19

Prime was surrendered last week with Prince the cute senior Chihuahua. Yesterday, the volunteers told him they were taking him outside to take pictures of him. Well, the joke is on the new dog! Apparently Party City had a sale on EVERYTHING!! Giant sequin bow tie? Please email Doug@hitor.org so he can get adopted soon.

No one seems to notice Onyx, even when he wears his PJ’s! What’s his story? Glad you asked! Last year, he was left with another dog inside a house when his owners moved out. They were finally found by the landlord, who then brought them to the shelter. For what he has been through, He is still a great dog. He really likes people and gets along with other friendly dogs. His favorite things are car rides, ear scratches, tennis balls and things that squeak! Will you give him a second chance?

Shelter is no life for a senior like Cupcake. She is Queen of the Head Tilt! At almost 11, she is the oldest dog at the shelter but still very active. She knows how to sit, stay, shake, down and roll over. She walks gently on a leash and is a great buddy on the car ride. She would make a perfect dog for someone who will take her for walks and let her cuddle them and watch tv. Cupcake’s adoption fee is sponsored. She has some amazingly loving volunteers that are hoping to see her happily ever after.

Meet Pebbles and Max. Pebbles is a 7 year-old female staffie mix and Max is an 8 year-old bull dog mix. Pebbles and Max have lived their entire lives together and were surrendered together. We would love if these two could be adopted as a pair. Max is a goofy calm boy who keeps his Pebbles comfortable and grounded. Pebbles seems to like her canine bestie Max, but not other canines so much. These two are a lovely pair whom enjoy human companionship.  If you are interested in this perfect pair, please fill out an adoption application and visit Hi Tor.

Escobar is a handsome five year-old who appears to be a red nose terrier/mastiff mix. He was surrendered to the shelter after his owner was sadly evicted and didn’t have a place to take Escobar. He has lived with lots of kids in the past. He is the perfect walker and is very sweet. Escobar is a big boy but loves to give tons of kisses. He is so gentle, especially for his size and strength. He knows his basic commands and loves to give paw. Do you have room in your family for this big mush? If you are interested in this well-mannered mush, please email Doug@hitor.org

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 2/21/19

Chaos is a 4 year old handsome brindle Cane Corso who was surrendered to the shelter back in October. He has lived with four children in the past but would prefer no other pets in the household. Chaos is a very strong dog who would need a family who has Cane Corso or similar breed experience. He knows all of commands and is very gentle for his size. He walks great on a leash, is so playful and mushy. He is such a good boy when he takes treats and just needs a second chance at a family.

Brooklyn came to the shelter in August 2016 and is now a 6 year old tuxedo terrier mix who was surrendered through no fault of his own when his family was evicted. Brooklyn starts off a bit energetic but when he feels comfortable he warms right up and relaxes. He’s a very friendly outgoing boy who will need continued leash training. He is housebroken. Brooklyn should be with older teens and adults because he is so active. Brooklyn is the first dog to be used in our new volunteer running program and would make a great jogging partner.

Escobar is a handsome five year old who appears to be a red nose terrier/mastiff mix. He was surrendered to the shelter in July 2018 after his owner was sadly evicted and didn’t have a place to take Escobar. He has lived with lots of kids in the past. He is the perfect walker and is very sweet. Escobar is a big boy but loves to give tons of kisses. He is so gentle, especially for his size and strength. He knows his basic commands and loves to give paw. He just made a huge impression at last weekend’s adoption event! Do you have room in your family for this big mush? If you are interested in this well-mannered mush, please visit the shelter!

Ruby is a year and half old and has been at the shelter since August 2018. He was surrender by his owner after felt he could no longer get along with the other pets in the home. For more info on Ruby please call the shelter and speak to Amber.

Gary is a two and a half year old green eyes grey tabby who has been at the shelter since March 2018. He was brought in as a stray and was a bit shy. This handsome guy has come out of his shell and is now the star of the lobby!

Madison is a blue eyed beauty and is such an angel. Madison has been spayed, is perfectly litter trained, loves adults, children, as well as other animals. She would make a great addition to a loving home!

Hi Tor List of Adoptable Pets 2/14/19

Meet Puff. He is about 2 years old and his playful nature reflects his young age. He appears to be an American Bulldog mix. Puff is a wonderful boy. He is very strong, but he does play gently. His favorite toy is a soccer ball! Talk about a big goofy love! He has lived with other dogs, cats and children over ten in his last home. Puff is a sweet dog that often gets overlooked because of his size. For more information on Puff, please visit the shelter or email Doug@hitor.org.

The shelter is no life for a senior like Cupcake. She is Queen of the Head-Tilt! She is the oldest dog at the shelter. She’s almost 11 but is still very active. She knows how to sit, stay, shake, down and roll over. She walks gently on a leash and is great on car rides. She would make a perfect dog for someone who will take her for walks and let her cuddle and watch TV. Cupcake’s adoption fee is sponsored by a generous donor.

Sunny has been at the shelter quite a while but he has come a long way. He’s about two ½ years old and was surrendered to the shelter, then adopted, but he was not the right fit for an active family with children. Sunny’s had a hard time with his transition back to shelter life but, with the help of amazing volunteers he is doing better. He will walk by your side and truly enjoys the company of his people. When the volunteers spend one-on-one time with him, he gives kisses and thinks he is a lap dog (and they love him so and would never tell him otherwise). Sunny is waiting for his forever family in a quiet home with older adults. Please consider sharing Sunny, he’s been at the shelter far longer than he deserves and he will make someone very happy.

Shane is 3 years old and loves to be with his people. He is like an active teenager who always is ready to run and is known to skid across the floor when he is out playing with the volunteers. Shane will be a treasure to any family who gives him a chance. He has been at the shelter since 2016, which is most of his life. Please give this guy a chance to have a home.

Cici is a 4-year-old female cat who is active and energetic. She needs a home where she can get plenty of exercise. Cici has not known an interest in other cats but might be okay living in a home with others, or just as an only cat. Cici needs an adult-only home with adopters who have had experience owning cats. She has been at the shelter since 2015. For more info on Shane or Cici call the shelter and speak to Amber.

Bob is the friendliest cat you will ever meet! The second you sit on the floor he climbs into your lap and plops down on your lap. Bob has been at the Annex for several years and he deserves a home of his own. For more info on Bob email Nixie at Gentlesouls@aol.com.
