Storm Takes its Toll in Rockland; Governor Declares State of Emergency for Surrounding Counties

The storm came through quickly, but took a heavy toll on the Hudson Valley area…with the majority of outages reported in Orange County. As of last night there were 21,000 O&R customers without power there and another 4,200 in Rockland. O&R spokesman Mike Donovan says high winds did some damage around the area…

Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency Tuesday in Putnam, Dutchess, Orange and Sullivan counties. 125 members of the New York National Guard were deployed to assist with recovery efforts. If you need to check O&R’s outage map, click here.  The company warns residents not to touch or go near downed wires and report them to the police and the company.
