Governor Cuomo Delivers 8th State of the State Address

In his 8th State of the State address, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he would mount a legal challenge to the new tax code, and launch its own “repeal and replace” effort. Cuomo said he wants to improve the New York City subway system, promised cashless tolling for the Thruway by the end of 2020, and called for the addition of better-trained police and more state-of-the-art surveillance equipment. Part of his anti-crime strategy is to work with at-risk youth in social and educational programs to stem the recruitment of kids into gangs such as MS-13. Former federal prosecutor Richard Donoghue was named yesterday as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, covering Long Island. Donoghue was praised by Attorney General Jeff Sessions as having “tremendous experience prosecuting MS-13.”
