Conviction of Chestnut Ridge Woman Guilty of Son’s Murder Upheld

A state appellate court has upheld the conviction of a former Chestnut Ridge woman who was convicted of killing her 5-year-old son with salt. Lacey Spears’ conviction was unanimously upheld by a panel of judges, which decided there was sufficient evidence to find her guilty. Her son, Garnett, died at Westchester Medical Center in January 2014. An unexplained rise in his sodium levels had prompted doctors to contact the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Spears was convicted in 2015 of second-degree murder and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.
