Afternoon News Update 11/9

Well, the presidential election is finally over and the American people have chosen Donald Trump to run the country for the next four years. Trump was able to beat out Clinton in electoral votes, 276- 218 while it appears right now that Clinton actually had roughly 200,000 more in the popular vote. No matter how you feel about the outcome, it’s comforting to know that this wild election season is finally over. (Source: USA Today)

In Paterson, city officials are considering a merge between the city’s police and fire departments. The merge would eliminate the positions of fire director and police director, while keeping each of the department’s respective chiefs for day-to-day operations. The merge would also create two new positions that would oversee both departments. (Source: NorthJersey)

In last night’s election, New Jersey voters overwhelmingly decided to strike down a proposal that would allow casinos to be built in the northern part of the state. The proposal was struck down by a ratio of more than 3-to-1. (Source: NorthJersey)

In local sports news, The Brooklyn Nets beat the Minnesota Timberwolves at home last night by a 119-110. Tonight, the Nets will take on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden; game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. And in NHL news, the Devils beat the Hurricanes 3-2 at home, while the Rangers lost to the Canucks 5-3 at the Garden.
