The Westchester County Airport has been leased to a California-based investment firm in a deal worth 140 million dollars. Oaktree Capital Management, the firm leasing the airport, plans to commit 30 million dollars in improvements over the first five years. The county will also be able to redirect revenue to other areas in the county such as parks and law enforcement. (Source: LoHud)

After an investigation that lasted for almost an entire year, the former treasurer for the Patterson Fire Department has pleaded guilty to stealing more than 1.1 million dollars from the department. 46-year-old Albert Melin pleaded guilty to writing more than 130 fraudulent checks for personal use. Melin is scheduled for sentencing on February 3rd and faces a possible maximum sentence of 23 years in prison. (Source: LoHud)

It was announced on Wednesday that the majority of public schools in north New Jersey improved on their PARCC scores. The state exams are designed to reflect if students are performing at their grade level and are on track for college. This is the second year that New Jersey has implemented the PARCC test, which focuses on math and English. (Source: NorthJersey)

In national sports news, and just in case you’ve been under a rock for the last 24 hours, the Chicago Cubs are World Series champions. For the first time since 1908, the Cubs are champs and were able to comeback from three games to one against the Indians. And in NBA news, the Brooklyn Nets beat the Detroit Pistons 109-101 at home, while the New York Knicks lost to the Houston Rockets 118-99 at the Garden.
