Afternoon News Update 11/1

The jury in the heavily publicized Bridgegate trial has begun deliberations. Overall, the trial lasted about six weeks and saw testimony from roughly 35 people. The trial itself has focused on Governor Chris Christie’s involvement before and after the George Washington Bridge lane closures. The Jury must decide whether two of Christie’s former associates are guilty of the politically motivated traffic scheme. (Source: NorthJersey)

In Clifton, New Jersey a Bronx man was able to disarm an assailant who was attempting to rob him at gunpoint. The victim was attempting to sell his computer after scheduling a meeting on Craigslist, but found that it was only a guise in an attempt to rob him. Luckily, he was able to disarm the robber, who then fled the scene. The robber was described as a male in his 20’s; Clifton police are asking anyone with information to call them at 973-470-5908. New York State’s dairy industry could be facing a 50 million dollar loss if new provincial standards are enforced in Canada. Governor Andrew Cuomo has written a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asking the Canadian government to develop a national agreement that would benefit both New York and Canada, which would allow New York to continue exporting dairy across the border. In national sports news, the World Series continues tonight as the Cubs have their backs against the wall and must outright win game six and a possible game 7 on Wednesday, while the Indians are one win away from taking the series! Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight on Fox. In NBA news, the New York Knicks are back in action tonight as they face the Detroit Pistons at 7:30.
