Afternoon News Update 10/31

Tuesday marks the first time since 1988 that New Jersey’s gas prices will be raised, going from 14.5 cents per gallon to 37.5 cents per gallon. New Jersey’s low gas prices have been seen as a cost saving measure for residents in the tristate area, but all that is coming to an end. The state reportedly ran out of money to pay for transportation projects and found that the only way to secure funds was to raise gas prices. According to the Journal News, New Jersey will go from the second lowest gas tax in the country to the sixth highest. (Source: LoHud)

Last Friday, police have taken a Mount Vernon man into custody in connection to the fatal stabbing that occurred on Elm Street on October 18th. 21-year-old Donte Pace was arrested by Yonkers police after surveillance footage and eye witness accounts lead authorities to him. Pace was sent to Westchester County jail and is awaiting a court date. (Source: LoHud)

Nyack’s 29th annual Halloween Parade took place on Saturday and saw upwards of 20,000 participants join in the celebration. The parade takes place on the mile long stretch of road between South Broadway and Main Street. Overall, the parade went off without a hitch and saw residents of all ages dress up and embrace the Halloween spirit. (Source: LoHud)

In national sports news, the World Series continues on Tuesday as the Cubs have their backs against the wall and must outright win game six on Tuesday and a possible game 7 on Wednesday, while the Indians are one win away from taking the series! The World Series moves to Cleveland for game six and a possible game seven. In football news, the Jets were able to beat the Cleveland Browns 31-28 while the Giants had a bye week.
