Hit and Run driver released on $10,000 Bail

According to News 12 Hudson Valley,A pedestrian, Luis DeJesus,33, of New Windsor is dead after being struck by a intoxicated hit-and-run driver in Orange County Monday evening, according to authorities. The hit-and-run occurred around yesterday at 6:30 p.m. on Route 300, just east of the New Windsor Cantonment State Park.First responders found DeJesus unconscious by the side of the road. He was found holding shopping bags. DeJesus was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to Police the driver, Michael Rule, 33, of Pine Bush, fled the scene, but was later captured in Newburgh.They say Rule was spotted by another driver a few miles away. New Windsor Police Chief Rick Hovey stated “He actually observed the vehicle drive by at a high rate of speed with substantial damage to the front of the vehicle.” Rule is being charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and driving while intoxicated. He has been released on $10,000 bail.
