County Executive Ed Day recently submitted a proposal to the Legislature for a 380 spot commuter parking lot on Route 59 in Monsey. The County reached an agreement with Ramapo, in which the town will be paid to take over caring for the state owned land. According to officials it will most likely cost about 1.7 million dollars in non-county taxes to pay the town as well as designing and rebuilding the land, which will be done by MJ Engineering and Land Surveying of Clifton Park. Ramapo approved a resolution to obtain use and occupancy permits with the state and transfer the name of the property to the town. Officials stated that work can begin next spring, after environmental approvals are reached and the lot could be ready by August 2015. Currently commuters are using the former Route 59 Rockland Drive-In Theater as a parking lot, but the 300 space lot is roughly paved with limited lighting.
