Nyack Psychiatrist No Jail Time for Prescription Drug Sales

A psychiatrist with offices in Nyack and Manhattan received a sentence of five years probation, 200- hours of community service, and a $5,000 fine after pleading guilty to charges of criminal sale of a prescription controlled substance, fourth- degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third- degree criminal tax fraud, and fourth- degree conspiracy. David Brizer, age 60, who formally worked with a Nyack Hospital drug treatment program was arrested after police found that he had been selling prescriptions for painkillers, including oxycodone pills, to dealers and others for about $300 per prescription. Through an investigation in August 2012 the Attorney General’s Office Medicaid Fraud Control Unit discovered that Brizer had not payed almost $500,000 in state income taxes, the money that he had made from the prescriptions.
