Spring Valley police arrested a 43- year old homeless man on Friday on charges of second- degree murder, first- degree murder, and first- degree criminal sex act. According to police Juan Perez- Coira Jr. was arrested in the rape and murder of 55- year old Deborah Burns, which occurred at 7:30 PM on Christmas Eve after the two had met up at the Memorial Park Housing Complex where Perez- Coira sometimes stayed with his grandmother and Burns lived with her family. Detective Sargent James Noble stated that the two knew each other, though police are not sure how well, and the man led Burns to 16 Lafayette Street, where she was later found dead after she was reported missing. Perez- Coira is being held without bail at the County Jail and the case could be heard by a grand jury later this week. He faces fifteen to twenty- five years to life in prison for the murder charge.
