Republican candidate for Orangetown Supervisor Walter Wettje announced Thursday that he will be appealing incumbent Andy Stewart’s victory with the Appellate Court in Brooklyn. For the past month Wettje and Stewart have been waiting for the results of the absentee ballots decided by the state Supreme Court Justice Victor Alfieri. Wettje stated Thursday that he will fight the decision by all legal means, and that he disagrees with the judge’s ruling to throw out six of the final twelve absentee ballots, two in which a husband and wife mistakenly signed each other’s, two unsealed ballots, one that was received past the deadline, and one that was stamped instead of signed. Stewart stated that the judge’s decision was fair to both candidates, out of fifty- four ballots only six were thrown out.
