New York State Senator David Carlucci, Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee, and Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski met on Tuesday at the Martin Luther King Center in Spring Valley to express the need for Governor Cuomo to sign a bill that would allow the East Ramapo School District early access to 3.5 million dollars of lottery funds, which would be put towards next year’s non-mandated programs like sports and the arts, in June, rather than in September. School officials will be required to provide financial reports to the State for the 30- year period that the funds would be deducted from to show how money is being spent. All three lawmakers agree that the advance in funds will be a good move for the district. Cuomo has until 11:59 tonight to sign both the East Ramapo bill and the Rockland County Financing Act, which will allow the county to borrow 96 million dollars to put towards paying back a large portion of the 128 million dollar deficit.
