A New City resident and unlicensed contractor pleaded guilty to stealing $40,000 from a Nanuet couple after he failed to complete renovations on their home. According to the Rockland District Attorney’s Office 44- year old Michael Kubasek, a Nanuet volunteer firefighter, admitted to stealing from a fellow volunteer and his wife after they hired him to build in a sun room, family room, new windows, doors, and siding on their home. According to District Attorney Thomas Zugibe, Kubasek failed to pay the subcontractos, leaving the couple to pay them. Kubasek was arrested and charged with third- degree grand larceny, to which he pleaded guilty and faces a sentence of four years in state prison. Kubasek was ordered to repay the couple the $40,000 as well as $10,000 to his landlord for bad checks.
