The Clarkstown Town Board met Tuesday to discuss amendments of current regulations on senior housing and assisted care communities in the county. According to Town Senior Planner Joe Simoes, the amendments allow for profit development of rental housing, and will change requirements of building size from 600 square feet to 1,000 square feet and the number of two bedroom units be increased from 10 percent to 50 percent. The amendment is also going to change the eligible income for affordable housing; rent will be based on one- third of monthly income. According to Councilwoman Stephanie Hausner expanding construction will help create much more housing for seniors who want to move but fall short of current affordability requirements.
