According to the Ramapo Police Department a Spring Valley man was arrested on Saturday evening, after being pulled over on Saddle River Road in Chestnut Ridge for driving without his headlights on. The man, 44- year- old Octavio Romero- Cortes, was driving a 2001 Saturn with two children under the age of fifteen and is accused of driving while intoxicated. He is being charged with a DWI as well as a Felony Aggravated DWI under “Leandra’s Law”, or the Child Passenger Protection Act, which was passed in 2009, and states that defendants can face up to four years in prison as well as a minimum $1,000 fine. The officer also issued a summons for operating a vehicle without headlights on and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
