A motorcycle accident on Route 9W in Haverstraw resulted in the death of a 76-year old New Jersey man on Sunday. The man, whose name was not released, was driving north on Route 9W when he crashed into a wall outside of Low Tor storage around 11:20 AM. According to witnesses the man hit the wall head on and was unconscious when rescue workers arrived at the scene. The driver was taken to Nyack Hospital where he was pronounced dead later Sunday. According to the Governor’s Highway Safety Association, motorcycle fatalities are one area of highway safety that has not made progress since 2009. Motorcyclists are 30 times more likely to die in a crash than passengers of a car. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, but paramedics on the scene stated that the man may have had a medical condition just before he lost control.
