According to Stephen Papas, campaign manager for David Fried, one of the Democratic candidates running in the upcoming County Executive race, more unsigned negative mailings have been sent out defacing Fried’s campaign. Throughout the last month mailings have been sent out to registered Democrats throughout the county, all without names attached, though questions were raised by residents and officials who discovered the postal codes on the flyers traced back to former candidate Dagan Lacorte. According to Papas the new flyer, which shows news articles from Fried’s 2006 campaign for state assembly, states that he received $19,000 from alleged convicted felons. The flyer also states that Fried, “Created an $80,000 taxpayer funded job for himself.” The job referred to is the Public Safety Advocate within the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office. Papas stated in a campaign release that the permit code, number 1822, on the new mailing belongs to opposing candidate Ilan Schoenbenberger. Members of Fried’s campaign and various residents have raised opposition to the negative mailings because many of them are unsigned. Lacorte, current Mayor of Suffern, made no comments on the past mailings, and candidate Schoenberger has made no comments on the current situation. Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee and Assemblyman James Skoufis recently endorsed Fried and Schoenberger carries the endorsement of County Clerk Paul Piperato.
