Democratic candidate for County Executive Ilan Schoenberger has challenged Republican candidate Ed Day’s near 6,000 petition signatures to create a countywide Preserve Rockland ballot line. The suit was filed based on the petition’s wording of “my place of residence”, excluding the word “present” from the area where the signer writes their address. Day stated that the Board of Elections agreed to hear the challenge and it will most likely get to court later this week. According to Democratic Elections Commissioner Kristen Stavisky the Board of Elections recently invalidated thousands of signatures collected by the Preserve Rockland- Clarkstown line due to sequencing errors in how the group numbered the pages of their petitions. Day will be receiving the endorsement of the National Latino Officers Association at 12:00 this afternoon at a press conference at the Haverstraw Village Hall. Schoenberger also recently received the endorsement of County Clerk Paul Piperato.
