It’s going to be a busy weekend ahead, starting with the Darius Rucker concert tonight at Provident Bank Park, and the Boulders return on Sunday night at 5. If you’re looking for something inspiring to attend this weekend go to Rockland Lake State Park for the 26th Annual Women’s Distance Festival 5k on Saturday. The event, run yearly by the Rockland Road Runners will donate proceeds to the center for safety and change, a family shelter that serves domestic violence and sexual assault victims. Jamie Kempton, president of the Road Runners said that this is the only event for women runners in Rockland and they expect the number of participants to be around 350 to 400. There will be two runs the first starting at 7:30 am, for children under 12, the other at 8 am, and the walk will begin 10 minutes later. The winner of the race will win $100 and there’s a chance to win another $100 if you can break the record 16:05. Participants can bring recycled cell phones and accessories for donation to the Verizon HopeLine Program, as well as used athletic shoes, which will be turned into track material through the Re-Use a Shoe program and Nike. Registration begins at 6:30 am, entry fees are $30 per person and it is $8 to park after 8 am.
