New York State Park Police identified the 16-year-old boy from Brooklyn who accidentally drowned in Hessian Lake after he left his classmates during a field trip.
Jean Fritz Pierre, a ninth grader at international high school in Prospect height was on a class trip hiking at Bear Mountain when he and another student broke away from the group. According to witnesses, Pierre was last seen diving off a rock into the lake with “swimming is not allowed” signs in the area.
The Rockland County Medical Examiner’s office said an autopsy showed Pierre had “significant medical conditions and suffered no bodily injuries.” Toxicology results for drugs and alcohol will take several weeks to determine.
It is not known if Pierre knew how to swim.
