Home-Rule Request to Borrow $96-Mil Passes in Senate

Home-rule request passed by the New York Senate at 1:30 am this morning that would allow Rockland County to borrow up to 96-million dollars to cover its deficit.

The request is pending Governor Andrew Cuomo’s signature that would permit 10-year bonds to cover the county’s growing budget gap.

If the Governor approves the bill, the county would be required to submit its proposed budget to the state comptroller 30 days before a vote is scheduled.    The comptroller would then send back binding changed at least 10 days before the vote.
